Abstract

Adolescents have a higher tendency to experience peer pressure in school. Peer

pressure is clustered in four elements such as social belongingness, curiosity, cultural-

parenting orientation of parents, influence of friends and education, this research design

used is descriptive correlation. The researchers conducted a survey among the students

in Grade-12 ABM SHS. With 19 respondents who completed the survey. Quantitative data

were processed by using chi-square. The result would show the correlation between the

perceived level of peer pressure in terms of social belongingness, curiosity, cultural-

parenting orientation of parents, and education. Generally, students are expected to face

the effects of peer pressure optimistically to cope up the negative impact of peer pressure

in their studies. Students may use a positive or negative approach towards peer pressure.

Teacher may guide and help them in facing the problems. The study recommended that;

school authorities, teachers and parents/guidance should pay attention towards

encouraging positive peer group activities in schools especially in the area of group

discussion; teachers should guide and as well help students solving the problems of

negative peer pressure when observed. The researcher personally administered the

instrument to the respondents, and upon completion, out of the 128 instruments

administered only 19 instruments were retrieved for analysis. The data collected from the

study were analyzed using independent sample t-test statistics. The results revealed that

there is no significant difference on the influence of positive as well as negative peer

pressure on Grade-12 ABM at San Carlos College base on their peer group.
