Part 2 - Exercises Adrián Lois Illana 26/05/20

Ex 1 p. 66) In which organs/parts do the following processes take place?:

a) Gametogenesis: In the testicles, seminiferous tubes.

b) Fertilisation: In the fallopian tubes.
c) Embryo implantation: In the endometrium
d) Fetus development: Inside the amnion, uterus.

Ex 2 p. 66) After creating your diagrams of the spermatogenesis and oogenesis, what are the main
differences you can find?

The cells they produce aren’t alike, and therefore aren’t the processes. Obviously, their creation occurs
in different sections of different reproductive systems. Besides, we can perceive some differentiations
regarding the total formation time and the quantity of gametes produced for each initial cell. Respecting
their similarities, the facts that both are based on three phases and undergo a meiosis-like division
process.

Ex 3 p. 66) What are the names of the layers that protect the embryo as it is developing in the
uterus?

The three layers, ordered from the innermost to outermost, are named the endoderm, mesoderm and
ectoderm.

Ex 4 p. 66) Create a written report detailing the process from gametogenesis to birth.

In order to have a proper fertilisation, gametes need to be produced; it is the testicles and the ovaries
who are responsible of such task. Once both gametogenesis succeed, they will both join through a
process called fertilisation, which takes place in the female’s fallopian tubes during sexual relations. If
one of the hundreds of million spermatozoids manages to reach the ovum and join, we’ll get a zygote.
The mentioned zygote will start dividing itself and growing for a week or so, when it will transform into
a morula and finally a blastocyst. By this time, it is referred to as an embryo. The embryo will need to be
fed with oxygen and nutrients from its mother, and will therefore attach to the uterus mucus walls, the
endometrium walls. During that embryonic and fetal stages inside the amnion, it will start developing
three different layers and later on structures that will provide it a human appearance and the rank of
fetus. This fetal stage is the longest one by far. After several more months of development, it will finally
be prepared for being born.

Ex 5 p. 66) Which part of the assignment was the hardest? Explain why.

Undoubtedly, the diagram was the section I struggled with the most. Among the reasons for it to be the
toughest, we distinguish the fact that it requires a level of creativity and space vision I do not possess,
added to the complications that arose while trying to upload such a high quantities of images and arrow
at a time. Regardless, it finally was a very rewarding activity to work in.
