Instagram Reels allows you to create fun
videos to share with your followers or
anyone on Instagram. Record and edit 15-
30-second multi-clip videos with audio,
effects, and new creative tools. You can
share reels with your followers on Feed,
and, if you have a public account, make
them available to the wider Instagram
community through a new space in Explore.

1. Find Reels in the Instagram camera

To create a new reel, open the Instagram


apponyourphone.NavigatetotheReels tab
and tap the camera icon.

2. Choose the length of your reel and
experiment with creative tools

Tap the length icon (the icon with the


number 30) on the left side of the screen.
Select whether your reel with be 15 or 30
seconds long.

Pick from a variety of tools like Audio,


Speed, Effects, Timer and Align to make
your content more creative.

3. Record and edit your clips

Reels can be recorded in a series of clips or


all at once, or you can upload existing
videos from your gallery. As you record or
add existing videos, keep track of the
amount of time elapsed with the red bar at
the top of the screen.

To start recording:
• Tapthemulti-clipshutter(thereelsicon)
in the bottom center of the screen.

•Tap the multi-clip shutter again to stop


recording.

4. Add enhancements

Enhance your reel with text, stickers, draw,


voice-over, and mix audio to make them
more fun and engaging. Select the
enhancements from the upper right corner.

Stickers: Select the happy face icon in the top corner


of the screen.

Voice-over: Select the microphone icon and record


your own audio over the video.
Mix audio: Select the icon with horizontal lines and
circles to add in music.
Text: Tap Aa and add your text. Select Done and move
your text to your desired location.

5. Add additional details and Share.

• To choose a cover image, tap the video


image with the words cover to select.

• Add a caption and hashtags or tag


other accounts.

• Select where you would like to share


your reel. You can share it to the Reels
tab, your feed or Instagram Stories.

6. Let’s publish!

Onceyou’veaddedacoverimageand
caption and chosen where to share your
reel,you’rereadytopublish.

• TaptheSharebuttontopublishyourreel.

Ifyouraccountispublicitwill appearon
youraccountgrid,onyourfollower’s feed,
and under the reels tab of your profile.

If you decide to share your reels as a story,


it will automatically become a story and no
longer exist as a reel.
Creating Reels
Select Reels at the bottom of the Instagram camera. You’ll see a variety of creative editing tools on
the left side of your screen that you can use to create your reel, including:

Speed: Choose to speed up or slow down part of the video or audio you
selected.

Align: Audio:

Follow these these to create the most impact with Instagram Reels.

Create playful content that matches what people are already watching.
Try incorporating trends you see on Reels into your videos with your brand’s unique twist. Or,start a trend of your
own with original content. Play with humor, transitions, audio or text to entertain your audience and keep them
watching over and over again.

Begin with your brand and design with your objective in mind.
When designing Reels ads, be sure to keep in mind your objective for the creative. If you’re looking for brand
lift, be sure to highlight your brand in the first few seconds. If you’re looking for conversions, make sure your
product or service is shown in action.

General Tips
Follow these these to create the most impact with Instagram Reels.

Design for sound on.


By default,reels have sound on. Use music and sound to grab the attention of your audience. Play with original
audio or add music from the free library that helps tell your story.

Do not add “swipe up” prompts.


Reels ads are a great opportunity to gain efficiencies in your 9:16 vertical video creative, but keep in mind the user
experience is difference from Stories. Do not add “Swipe up” prompts, but instead call attention to the action
button. The action button will display your call to action like “Learn More”, orVisit Website”.

Little Lemon
Adrian has started creating reels for Little Lemon’s Instagram. He wants to enhance his
videos to entertain his audience and bring more attention to Little Lemon.
Audio
Search for a song for your reel from the Instagram
music library. People and businesses can also use
their own original audio by simply recording a reel
with it.

library that complements his video.

Choose to speed up or slow down part of the video
or audio you selected.

Adrian wants to create a time lapse video of some


behind the scenes action in the kitchen. He uses the
speed feature to speed up and slow down parts of

Select one of the many effects in Instagram’s effect
gallery, created both by Instagram and creators all
over the world, to record multiple clips with different
effects.

For example, Adrian uses the custom color effect to


enhance his video and inspire his audience to eat
at Little Lemon.

Timer and Countdown
Set the timer to record any of your clips hands-free.

Adrian creates a video of him walking into the


kitchen. He sets a timer and places his phone to
the side to record an action shot.

Instagram Reels Ads
Launched in June 2021, Reels ads help businesses reach
greater audiences, allowing people to discover inspiring
new content from brands and creators.

Reels ads are full screen and vertical, similar toads in


Stories, and appear in between individual Reels. As with
regular Reels content, these ads will loop and can be up to
30 seconds. People can comment, like, view, save and
share Reels ads.

Before you Begin

Your video creative can be up to 60 seconds and


should be in the fullscreen, vertical format.

Instagram recommends that your video ad creative


includes music or sound to better fit the Reels
placement.

4. When you go to the Placements option, select
Manual Placements if you’d like to run a standalone
Reels ad campaign. Under Placements, select the
dropdownnexttoStories and check the box next to
Instagram Reels.
5. Select a Call to Action and finish creating your ad.
