Rationale The implementation of the K to 12 program in the Philippines offers different academic strands for
students to specialize in, one of which is the ABM strand (Nazareno, 2021). ABM stands for
Accountancy, and Business Management. This strand is to expand the mind in business skills like
making a business in the future (Clave, 2017). Selecting a strand is a crucial act to every student in
such a way that they have to consider their financial status, parents and peer suggestion, and also
their self-choice in acting on it (Tortor, 2020). Most adolescents in the Philippines cannot make their
own decisions at all times, especially when choosing a career. They are fond of soliciting advice from
parents, teachers, friends, peers or idolized figures (Alentijo, 2019).

Selecting the prospective career or education program for a student's personality will result in
improved career well-being, success-job satisfaction, good grades, and timely graduation (Dublin,
2020). There are times that the students choose their course/track based on their personal interest.
(Reynold, 2021). Nowadays, there are certain factors of an individual that affect how to choose or
make a decision choosing their strand (Alentijo, 2019).

According to Fulgarinas et al. (2023), whose study aimed to identify strand preferences in Senior
High School students, other studies should be conducted to verify the results of their study. It would
be beneficial to gather more data and explore potential correlations between attributes and SHS
tracks and strands, ensuring a more comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing
predictions (Romeo, 2024). Therefore, the researchers will conduct this study to fill this gap and to
further search for different factors that influence the decision-making of senior high school
students.

General Objective This research will aim to determine the factors affecting the decision of senior high school students
in choosing ABM as their strand.

Specific Objectives 1. What is the demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:

a. Sex

b. Age

c. Parents’ Highest Educational Attainment

d. Family Monthly Income

2. What are the factors affecting the decision of SHS students on choosing ABM as their strand in
terms of:

a. Parents’ Influence

b. School Location

c. Teachers’ Advice

d. Print Media

e. Social Media Influence

f. Peer Influence

g. Related Courses

3. Is there a significant relationship between the demographic profile of the respondents and the
decision of senior high school students on choosing ABM as their strand?

Hypothesis: There is no significant relationship between the demographic profile of the respondents
and the decision of senior high school students on choosing ABM as their strand.

Originality/Value This study that will be focusing on the decision making of the students, contributes significantly to
the field of business education by determining the factors affecting the decision on choosing ABM as
strand. This study will add to existing knowledge of other variables that are not mentioned in the
existing literature. This study will not just list the factors but will also provide suggestions to the
senior high school students. Furthermore, the result of this study may be used to improve data and

be a guide to institutional studies and business education.

Beneficiaries This study will be beneficial to the students upcoming to choose ABM, as this study can determine
what are the factors that affect the decision on choosing ABM as their strand. Additionally, it will be
also beneficial to the parents and guardians as it will help them realize that they must motivate their
child, and to know the factors that affect their child's decision in choosing ABM strand. This study
will be beneficial to the school administration as this can help in putting up an effective SHS track
information and guidance system that plays a vital role in guiding students towards making the best
possible choice. Lastly, this study will be beneficial to the future researchers as this study can help
researchers as a basis and to improve this study.

Materials and Research Design

Methods
The researchers will employ a quantitative research design, specifically descriptive research to
determine the factors affecting the decision of senior high school students on choosing ABM as
their strand.

Locale of the Study

This study will be conducted at the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao. This school was chosen
because of its convenience and accessibility.

Respondents of the Study

The respondents of the study will be the senior high school students at the University of Saint Louis
Tuguegarao. Stratified random sampling will be used in choosing respondents. By using stratified
random sampling, the researchers will determine how many respondents will be involved on each
grade level. It will ensure that every senior high school ABM student has an equal chance of being
selected as one of the respondents of the students.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers will first prepare a letter for approval to the Vice President of Academics. After the
approval of the letter, the researchers will prepare a survey questionnaire. The draft of the
questionnaire will be drawn out on the researcher’s readings, previous studies, and professional
literature. The chosen student respondents will receive the questionnaire together with a letter of
consent to assure them that the data gathered will be anonymous and will be utilized only for the
study. Lastly, the answered questionnaires will be recorded digitally and will be stored for data
