ABBREVIATIONS
LOC/EMC = Late Old Chinese or Early Middle Chinese
LMC = Late Middle Chinese
NR = not relevant either because of lack of data or because the etymon with the meaning is not related
VM = the group of Viet-Muong languages and dialects
PC = the group of Pong-Cuoi languages and dialects
Columns H and I indicate the numbers and types of groups of Vietic with attestations. For example, 3 and
VM-PC-S means that a word has relevant lexical support in the Vietnamese, Muong, Pong, Cuoi, and at least one
archaic language, 3 VM-C-S means that there is evidence in only Vietnamese, Muong, Cuoi, and one archaic
language. When there are only 2 groups VM and PC, these might be tied to Proto-Vietic, but they could also be
tied to a later stage of Vietic. Regardless, their time depth can be considered reasonable substantial to make
inferences about early Vietic culture, such as those discussed in my article and for future queries.
