What is the Intervention Room?

The intervention room is where your child receives individualized instruction! This room is a quiet
space to address any sensory needs, work one on one or in a small group, and provide additional
practice and/or time to complete assignments.

As your child works with me, they may participate in Number Worlds (the intervention piece of our
Everyday Math curriculum) and the Orton-Gillingham approach to improve their phonics, phonemic
awareness, decoding skills, and/or reading comprehension. We will also work on any skills or
assignments deemed necessary from your child’s classroom teacher and/or literacy or math coach.
My job is to not only support your child, but their teacher as well!

Meet the Teacher

My name is Ashley Bussard and this is my 10th year teaching! This will be my 2nd year as an
intervention specialist as my first 8 years I taught first grade here at United. I graduated from the
University of Mount Union with dual licensure in Early Intervention and Early Childhood Education
with endorsements in K-12 reading and 4/5th grade in 2014. I have two masters degrees from
Concordia University Chicago; one in Teacher Leadership and another in Administration. In Summer
2021, I was trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach. Last year, I was trained in PAX, a preventative
behavior program. I absolutely LOVED these trainings and am very eager to help your child learn
using these techniques!

Not only do I go by Mrs. Bussard, but by Mama at home as I have son, Noah, who four years old and
a daughter, Maeve, who will be one in October! They are my everything! My husband, Aaron, and I
have been married for 9 years and he manages Crestview Auto Body. We love planning vacations to
Walt Disney World as I did an internship there in college!

Literacy: Readers identify the problem in the story. Have your child practice finding
the problem in any fiction baggie book they chose!
Sight Words: go, like, no, her - Ask your child which part of these words is the
“heart part”. The heart part we have to know by heart while the rest of the word
we can use our phonics skills to sound out!
Phonics Concept(s): e says /e/ like in egg and sh says /sh/ like in ship.
Math: Mathematicians count 10 more and 10 less than a number. One way to do
that is to use a number grid and utilize the column with that number or “tens
friends”. 10 less is the number above it in the column, 10 more is the number below.
