EMMA BENEZETH 1ERE1

Hello everyone, my name is Emma and today I'm here to introduce you to the three American and
British leaders chosen for the exhibition.
First, we're going to look at Winston Churchill, then Queen Victoria and nally George Washington.

William Churchill was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and played a decisive role in the
Allied victory in the Second World War. Let's move on to the photo, taken by photographer Yousuf
KARSH. It shows Winston Churchill standing with his cane. The expression on his face shows that
he's a very serious man, and that he's not joking.
The aim of this photo was to make Winston Churchill look like a lion, standing still and waiting to
be tamed.

Now I will introduce you to Queen Victoria.

She was Queen of the United Kingdom, Ireland and Canada, Empress of India and Queen of
Australia.
The photo shows Queen Victoria and her family, including her husband and nine children. The
photo shows that the Queen had power. She is in the center of the photo, surrounded by her family.
Her wealth is represented by the clothes they wear. They are all looking at her. She was very
important and serious.
Queen Victoria wanted of cial portraits of her to be distributed everywhere, to be known by the
people. She also wanted people to see her surrounded by her close family, as she wanted to show
her strength and position within the family.
Queen Victoria's passion for photography was evident when she strategically used of cial portraits
to symbolize the monarchy around the world, becoming an early international celebrity.

At last, here's George Washington is the rst president of the United States
Emblematic of the 19th century, this historic painting captures the decisive moment of the American
War of Independence, highlighting the courage of George Washington.
This portrait shows George Washington in the foreground. We can see that he is standing in front of
his desk. His face is realistic. George Washington is dressed as a civilian. His black suit is sober and
appropriate for the presidential of ce. It contrasts with the clothes worn by contemporary European
monarchs in their of cial portraits.
We can see that he is holding his sword in his left hand, which indicates that his military service is
over, so he is depicted as a civilian, because he had resigned his position as military leader. This
sword also shows that George Washington was a general during the American War of Independence.
