ACTIVITY TODAY
SALVATION HISTORY 4
February 8, 2022

Start this activity asking Jesus for guidance. Then, search online or you may have other sources
to answer the following questions:
1. How do you understand religion? How did religion start in the history of humanity,
civilizations in the world?
a. Basically, religion is a set of organized beliefs, practices, and systems. Most of
the time, these beliefs and practices are linked to the belief and worship of a
controlling force, like a personal god or another supernatural being. Historically,
religion provided structure and meaning for small, close-knit communities like
villages. In cities, religion, particularly the faiths shared by large numbers of
people, was a stabilizing force. People from all walks of life flocked to these
religions because they appealed to people from around the world. Unlike earlier
village-based religions, these faiths' texts and tenets spoke to a wide range of
people, making them more likely to spread along trade routes. (The Origin of
World Religions,

2. Is religion important or necessary for a human being, society, and the world? Explain
well your insights and opinion or any source of ideas to prove your stance.
a. Firstly, religion provides a sense of purpose and meaning to life. Things in life
can be confusing at times. Although that was certainly the case in the distant past,
today's highly scientific era still has many mysteries that science cannot explain,
and religious faith helps many people make sense of the things science cannot. A
person's psychological well-being can be boosted by their religious beliefs and
practices, which can provide solace in times of need and foster social connections
with others in places of worship. According to a large number of studies, religious
people are happier and more satisfied with their lives than non-religious people of
any age. In addition to bettering one's mental and physical well-being, research
suggests that those who practice religion live longer than those who do not
(Moberg, 2008).
3. Is religion relevant in all aspects or facets of life?
a. Many people's lives revolve around their religious beliefs. There are those who,
by nature, are not religious, but even they see the importance of it. Religion is a
source of mental tranquility. No matter how bad things get, we can always lean on
our faith for comfort and inspiration. Religion provides us with a safe and secure
haven. We are able to cope with life's challenges because we have a sense of well-
being and emotional support. Social virtues are also instilled by religion. Positive
social values such as truthfulness, nonviolence, selfless service, devotion to a
greater good and faith. As a result, we can say that religion gives meaning to our
lives. In the most difficult times of our lives, religion gives us hope for the future.
It prevents you from becoming depressed, allowing your life to run more
smoothly.
4. How did Judaism as religion start?
a. It is in the Torah that we learn about the beginnings of Jewish faith. First God
appeared to a Hebrew named Abraham, who later became known as the father of
Judaism. As a result of the covenant that God made with Abraham, Jews believe
that their ancestors and their descendants have been chosen by God to establish a
great nation in their honor. Isaac, Abraham's son, and Jacob, Abraham's grandson,
were also important figures in the history of the ancient Jewish people. Israel was
Jacob's new name, and he and his descendants became known as Israelites.
Exodus from Egypt took place over a thousand years after Abraham, when the
prophet Moses led the Israelites out of their slavery. At Mt. Sinai, God gave
Moses the Ten Commandments, according to the Bible.
