A Lesson Plan in EDUC 211

I. Objectives

Provided with varied activities the BSEd-2 and BEEd-1 students with at least 85%
accuracy, are expected to:

a. Identify Erikson's Psycho-Social Theory of Development;

b. Create a chart about Erikson's Psycho-Social Stages of Development; and

c. Appreciate the importance of the 8 psycho-social stages of development in their life as a


future teacher.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: Erikson's Psycho-Social Theory of Development

Reference: Corpuz et al., (2018). The Child and Adolescent Learners and Learning Principles
(Page 76- 94) Lorimar Publishing, Inc.

Materials: Cartolina, Construction Papers, Scotch Tape, Scissors, Glue, Markers and Chalk

II. Lesson Proper

A. Stimulating
The teacher will give an activity called “Cross-word puzzle” and divide the class into
four groups. The activity should be done in 5 minutes.
Mechanics:

1. Each group should find and encircle the seven (7) words on the given puzzle, it may be a
kind of characteristic or virtues.
2. After the words was being found, each group should choose one representative to share
his/her characteristic or virtue that was found in the given puzzle and then asked to
answer the questions given by the teacher.

1. How can you say that you have that kind of characteristic or virtue?

2. What do you think is the reason why you have that kind of characteristic or virtue?

3. Who or what do you think contributed you to be that kind of a person?

After the activity, the teacher will ask about what they have observed in the given activity
and explain the relatedness of what they did to the topic.

Erikson's Psycho-Social Theory of Development

Trust Vs. Mistrust


-Children develop a sense of trust when, caregivers provide reliability, care and affection.
A lack of this will lead to mistrust.

Autonomy Vs. Shame & Doubt


-Children need to develop a sense of personal control over physical skills and a sense of
independence. Success leads to feeling of autonomy, failure results in feelings of shame
and doubt.

Initiative Vs. Guilt


-Children need to begin asserting control and power over the environment. Success in this
state leads to a sense of purpose Children who try to exert too much power experience
disapproval, resulting in a sense of quilt.
Industry Vs. Inferiority
-Children need to cope with new social and academic demands, Success leads to
competence, while failure results in Feeling of inferiority.

Identity Vs. Role Confusion


-Teens need to develop a sense of self and personal identity. Success leads to an ability to
stay true to yourself, while failure leads to role confusion and a weak sense of self.

Intimacy Vs. Isolation


-Young adults need to form intimate, loving relationships with other people. Success
leads to strong relationships, while failure result in loneliness and isolation.
Generativity Vs. Stagnation
-Adults need to create or nurture things that will outlast them, often by having children or
creating a positive change that benefits other people Success leads to feelings of useful-
ness and accomplishment, while failure result in shallow involvement in the world.

Ego Identity Vs. Despair


-Older adults need to look back on life and feel a sense of fulfillment. Success at this state
leads to feeling of wisdom, while failure results in regret, bitterness, and despair.
C. Follow-up Activity

 The teacher will ask if there are questions or clarifications.

 The teacher asks the students to create a chart about their development based on
Erikson’s Psycho- Social Stages of Development and then ask to answer the
following guide question.

1. How important does these 8 psychosocial stages of development to you as a


future educator? Why?

This activity allows students to show their understanding about the topic and
realize the importance of 8 psycho-social stages of development in determining
their own development and as a future teacher.
