Mecca is Islam's holiest city, home to the Kaaba Shrine and the Grand Mosque. The city
is known for the annual Hajj pilgrimage, being one of the five pillars of Islam. In the 7th
century, the Islamic Prophet, Muhammad, proclaimed Islam in the city. The city played
an important role in the early history of Islam and now it is an important trading center.
After 966, Mecca was led by local Sharifs, until 1924, when it came under the rule of the
Saudis. In its modern period, Mecca has seen a great expansion in size infrastructure.
The modern day city is located in the capital of Saudi Arabia's Makkah Province, in the
historic Hejaz region. With a population of 1, 700, 000 (2008), the city is located 73
kilometers (45 miles) inland from Jeddah, in a narrow valley and 277 meters (910 feet)

Last holiday my students and I went to Yogyakarta. We stayed at Morison Hotel which is
not a long way from Malioboro. On Friday, we went to the sanctuaries in Prambanan.
There are three significant sanctuaries, the Brahmana, Siwa, and Wisnu. They are truly
stunning. We went by just Brahmana and Syiwa sanctuaries, on the grounds that Wisnu
sanctuary is being remodeled. On Saturday morning we went to Yogya Kraton.
We spent around two hours there. We were fortunate on the grounds that a brilliant and
amicable aide drove us. At that point, we proceeded with our adventure to Borobudur.
We touched base there at four p.m. At 6 p.m. we heard the declaration that the
Borobudur entryway would be closed. In the evening we left Yogyakarta by bus.

One day, a farmer's young wife went to the next village to visit her own mother and
brother. She brought along her baby son. When it was time for her to leave, her brother
said "it is getting dark. Let my son, Ah Tim go with you through the forest".
So Ah Tim led the way and the young woman followed behind, carrying her baby.
When they were in the forest, suddenly they saw a group of wolves. They began to run to
avoid the danger, but Ah Tim kicked against a stone and fell down.
At once the wolves caught him. The young woman cried to the wolves, "please eat my
own son instead". Then, she put her baby son on the ground in front of the wolves and
took her nephew away. Everyone understood that this was because the woman was very
good and kind. She had offered her own son's life to save her nephew.
They ran back to the house and called for help. All men in the village fetched thick sticks
and went back with her into the forest. When they got there, they saw something very
strange. Instead of eating the woman's baby, the wolves were playing with him.

Learning English through music and songs can be very enjoyable. You can mix
pleasure with learning when you listen to a song and exploit the song as a means
to your English progress. Some underlying reason can be drawn to support the
idea why we use songs in language learning.
Firstly, “the song stuck in my head” Phenomenon (the echoing in our minds of
the last song we heard after leaving a restaurant, shopping malls, etc) can be
both enjoyable and sometimes unnerving. This phenomenon also seems to
reinforce the idea that songs work on our short-and-long term memory.
Secondly, songs in general also use simple conversational language, with a lot of
repetition, which is just what many learners look for sample text. The fact that
they are effective makes them many times more motivating than other text.
Although usually simple, some songs can be quite complex syntactically,
lexically and poetically, and can be analyzed in the same way as any other
literary samplE.
Furthermore, song can be appropriated by listener for their own purpose. Most
pop songs and probably many other types don't have precise people, place or
time referencE.
In addition, songs are relaxing. They provide variety and fun, and encourage
harmony within oneself and within one group. Little wonder they are important
tools in sustaining culture, religion, patriotism and yeas, even revolution.
Last but not least, there are many learning activities we can do with songs such
as studying grammar, practicing selective listening comprehension, translating
songs, learning vocabulary, spelling and culturE.
From the elaboration above, it can be concluded that learning through music
and songs, learning English can be enjoyable and fun
Just watch a local street for a short while and note the steady stream of skaters
speeding up and down the footpaths. Toddlers can be trampled on and old
ladies can be knocked down as they struggle home carrying their cat food from
supermarkets.
Kids will always seek thrills and excitement. They need to practice their 180s,
360s and Ollie's free from restrictions. We must build skate parks in the
suburbs so that streets are safe for small children and senior citizens and
skaters have spaces where they can race, chase, speed, and soar towards the sun
There are some reasons why we should have advertisement in newspaper and
magazines. One reason is ads give us information about what is available.
Looking at ads we can find out what is on sale and what is new in the market.
This is an easy way of shopping. Another reason is that advertisement promotes
business. When shop owners compete against each other the buyer saves
money, more people come to their shops and they sell more goods.
On the other hand, some people argue that ads should not be put in newspapers
and magazines for these various reasons. Firstly, ads cost the shopkeepers a lot
of money to print onto paper. Also some people don't like finding junk mail in
their letter boxes. Ads also influence people to buy items they don't need and
can't really afford. Ads use up a lot of space and a lot of effort has to be made
the ads eye-catching.
After looking at both sides of issue, I think we should not have advertisements
because they cost a lot of money and take up a lot of room in the papers. I don't
think I find some of them interesting. I mainly disagree because it's junk mail.

Muslim’s Headscarf
Many Muslim women view the veil as a means to protect their modesty and
privacy. Just as we would not force any women to be seen in public in her
underwear if she did not feel comfortable doing so, why should a woman be
forced to show her hair if she does not want to? Modesty is a personal
judgement, some are comfortable in the smallest bikini while others prefer a lot
more clothing. No one but the woman herself should make that decision.
Muslim women are not the only ones to feel coerced over their mode of dress.
Most people are affected by the societal norms surrounding them. Fashion
trends could be seen in exactly the same light as religious traditions.
Based on the above discussion, the government should not banned Muslim’s
headscarf as a part of school or office uniforms.
