Why Does the Sea Become Salty
In ancient times there lived two brothers named Xia Ming and Yao Ming. They lived on
the edge of a beach. One day, their rich father died. Xia Ming which was the oldest brother brought
all the wealth of his father and left his brother. Then Yao Ming became very poor. He had to work
very hard to make a living. One day, an old man who starved came to his home. He asked for some
food to Yao Ming. Although he lived in poverty, he was very generous. He gave the old man all
his food. “Thank you Son! You’re very good to me! “The old man said. Then he told Yao Ming to
go to the top of the mountain. “Go to the top of the mountain! There you will find a cave filled
with fairies. Go and ask a magic stone to them!” He said.
In the next day, Yao Ming went up to mountain and brought all his foods. When arriving at
the top of the mountain, he found a cave that was intended by the old man. Then, Yao Ming entered
the cave and found a lot of fairies in it. The fairies were starving; they were attracted to the food
which was brought by him. He felt sorry for them and gave all the food to them. The fairies were
happy, “Ask something to us!” they said. “Give me a magic stone!” He pleaded. Then the fairies
gave him a magic stone. After that he returned to his house.
At first, Yao Ming did not know what the function of the stone is. When he got home, he
was hungry while all his food had run out. “I want to eat something!” He said to himself. Suddenly
a delicious meal appeared on the table. Since that day, Yao Ming became affluent people. His
brother heard the wonders of magic rock which was owned by his brother. He stole the stone when
her brother was asleep. Afterward, he went to sail in the ocean.
Xia Ming which was greedy, asked for salt to be sold. Then salt appeared in the boat but he
felt it was not enough to be sold. He asked for more salt so that he could earn more money. The
magic stone continued to excrete salt until the ship was filled with salt. However, the stones kept
excreting salt without stopping till the ship along with Xia Ming sunk to the sea floor. Until now
the stone continues to excrete salt and make all the oceans became salty.

Snow White
Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl in a palace, she lived with her uncle and her
aunty after her parents passed away. She lived unhappy the actually, her uncle and her aunty always
made her upset. All the palace event were guided by them.
Someday, when snow white wanted to go to the bedroom, she passed the dining room. She
saw her uncle and aunty in the dining room, they said that snow white would be moved out from
America. Snow white was so shocked and she felt the flowers pot down. They looked at her and
they brought her to the storeroom.
Snow white was so sad, and she tried to run away from the palace. It was success, she could
run away by the window. She ran as fast as she could, she entered the forest. She walked and ran
alone in the dark forest. She met the wild animal and she hide. After a long time, she felt to tired
and sleepy, she met a small cottage and she decided to enter. She laid her body in the floor.
Seven dwarfs were so shocked after knowing there was a girl who was laying on the floor,
they looked her because their body was so different. Snow white opened her eyes and she met
them. She told about her live and they took her as their eldest sister. They lived happy aver after.

Bawang Putih and Bawang Merah
Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful girl with her father, her stepmother and her stepsister.
One day, her father passed away. Her stepmother and stepsister treated her very bad whereas they
used to love her before her father died. She had to do all the house work.
On the morning day, Bawang Putih went to the river to wash a lot of clothes. Then she saw goldfish
that needed a help. Its mouth was stack on a hook. Bawang Putih felt sorry and helped the poor
goldfish. “Thank you for your kindness”, the goldfish said.
Bawang Putih was very surprised that the golden fish could speak. However, the goldfish helped
her to wash the clothes and they became best friend. Unfortunately, Bawang Merah knew about
the gold fish. She caught the goldfish and gave it to her mom. After that, they cooked it and ate it.
When Bawang Putih knew it, she took the bone and buried it. She felt very sad that she could not
take care of her best friend.
Several days later, grew a beautiful tree on the burial. Surprisingly, a prince came to see it. He
needed the tree to make his father well again. When he asked who was the own of this tree, Bawang
Merah said that it was hers. However, when she wanted to pull the tree, she could not do it. Even
everyone could not do it, but Bawang Putih could do it. Bawang Putih pull the tree easily and gave
it to the prince. The prince married with Bawang Putih. She forgave her stepmother and stepsister
and they lived happily ever after.

The Myth of Malin Kundang
A long time ago, in a small village near the beach in West Sumatra, a woman and her son
lived. They were Malin Kundang and her mother. Her mother was a single parent because Malin
Kundang’s father had passed away when he was a baby. Malin Kundang had to live hard with his
mother. Malin Kundang was a healthy, diligent, and strong boy. He usually went to sea to catch
fish. After getting fish he would bring it to his mother, or sold the caught fish in the town.
One day, when Malin Kundang was sailing, he saw a merchant’s ship which was being
raided by a small band of pirates. He helped the merchant. With his brave and power, Malin
Kundang defeated the pirates. The merchant was so happy and thanked to him. In return the
merchant asked Malin Kundang to sail with him. To get a better life, Malin Kundang agreed. He
left his mother alone.
Many years later, Malin Kundang became wealthy. He had a huge ship and was helped by
many ship crews loading trading goods. Perfectly he had a beautiful wife too. When he was sailing
his trading journey, his ship landed on a beach near a small village. The villagers recognized him.
The news ran fast in the town; “Malin Kundang has become rich and now he is here”.
An old woman ran to the beach to meet the new rich merchant. She was Malin Kundang’s
mother. She wanted to hug him, released her sadness of being lonely after so long time.
Unfortunately, when the mother came, Malin Kundang who was in front of his well-dressed wife
and his ship crews denied meeting that old lonely woman. For three times her mother begged Malin
Kundang and for three times he yelled at her. At last Malin Kundang said to her “Enough, old
woman! I have never had a mother like you, a dirty and ugly woman!” After that he ordered his
crews to set sail. He would leave the old mother again but, in that time, she was full of both sadness
and angriness.
Finally, enraged, she cursed Malin Kundang that he would turn into a stone if he didn’t
apologize. Malin Kundang just laughed and really set sail. In the quiet sea, suddenly a
thunderstorm came. His huge ship was wrecked and it was too late for Malin Kundang to
apologize. He was thrown by the wave out of his ship. He fell on a small island. It was really too
late for him to avoid his curse. Suddenly, he turned into a stone.
