1. Sangkuriang

Once upon a time, there lived a beautiful woman named Dayang Sumbi.She lived deep in the
forest with her dog named Si Tumang and his son named SangkuriangOne day, Dayang
Sumbi asked Sangkuriang to hunt a deer with Tumang.However, Sangkuriang did not
manage to get one, so he decided to kill Tumang and bring his heart to his mother.Dayang
Sumbi, who knew about it, was angry and kicked Sangkuriang out of the house.Several years
later, Sangkuriang accidentally met Dayang Sumbi and fell in love, not knowing that she was
his mother.Dayang Sumbi, who knew that the man was her son, refused Sangkuriang’s
proposal.She then asked a very tough conditions, which were to dam the Citarum river and
build a big boat in the middle of the dam.boat and it became Mount Tangkuban Prau.

2.Malin Kundang

Once upon a time there was a child named Malin Kundang who was born to a poor family.
His mother is a widow who lived in poverty.Malin, who wanted to change his destiny, asked
his mother’s permission to migrate. With the permission of his mother, Malin went
sailing.Several years later, Malin returned to his hometown with a very beautiful wife. Malin
had become a wealthy merchant who owned dozens of merchant ships.His mother, who heard
her son’s return, came to welcome him. But Malin was ashamed to see his mother in tattered
clothes like a beggar.Malin did not admit that she was his mother. His mother was so
disappointed ad hurt that she cursed if Malin was indeed her son, he would become a stone
because he didn’t want to acknowledge his mother.Malin Kundang, his wife and the entire
crew turned into stones after a storm hit their ship.

3.Timun Mas

Long time ago, there was a couple who had no children. They asked Buto Ijo to give them a
child. Their request was granted.From one of the golden cucumbers planted in the garden, a
very beautiful girl was born and was named Timun Mas.The agreement between this couple
and Buto Ijo was to give the child to Buto Ijo when the child is 17 years old.However, they
broke their promise and instead told Timun Mas to leave when she was 17 years old.Buto Ijo
was angry and went after Timun Mas. However, Timun Mas, which has been equipped with
cucumber seeds, salt and shrimp paste, can avoid Buto Ijo.The cucumber seeds that she
scattered towards Buto Ijo turned into tangled plants which blocked Buto Ijo’s steps.The salt
she spread turned into a sea, and the shrimp paste that was thrown turned into suction mud
that drowned Buto Ijo.Timun Mas was able to return home safely and gathered with her
parents who loved her.
 4.The Lake Toba
A long time ago, there lived a young orphan farmer in the northern part of the island of
Sumatra. The area is very dry. Syahdan, the young man lived from farming and fishing. One
day he was fishing a fish so beautiful. The color is golden yellow. So holding, the fish turned
into a lovely princess. The daughter of a woman who was condemned for violating a ban. He
will turn into a kind of creature that first touch. Therefore, human touches it, it turns into a
princess.

Fascinated by her beauty, the young farmer’s daughter asked her to be his wife. The proposal
is accepted on condition that the young man would not tell its origin from the farmer
fish.young man the terms agreed. After a year, the couple blessed with a boy. He has a bad
habit that is never satiated. He ate all the food.

One day the boy was eating all the food from their parents. The young man was very upset
saying: “basic offspring of fish!” That statement by itself his wife.with thus unlock the
secrets of their promise has been violated.

His wife and son disappeared mysteriously. The land of their former footing  springs. The
water that flows from the spring growing bigger and bigger. And being a vast lake. The lake
is now called Lake Toba.

5.Si Pitung
Pitung is a pious young man from Rawa Belong. He diligently studied the Koran in Haji
Naipin. Finished learning the Koran he was trained in martial arts. After years of religious
knowledge and the ability to master the martial increased.
 

At that time the Dutch were colonized Indonesia. Pitung pitied the plight experienced by
young people. Meanwhile, kumpeni (the name for the Netherlands), a group of employer and
the landlord lives wallowing in luxury. Homes and their fields guarded by thugs who
ferociously.
 

With the assistance of his friends of the Rais and Jii, Pitung began planning the robbery of the

defender of the common people.

6.Aji Saka
Once upon a time, there was a kingdom named Medang Kamulan ruled by king named Prabu
Dewa Cengkar who wild and likes to eat human. Every day the king takes a man who was
taken by Patih Jugul Young. A small portion of the people who fret and fear fled secretly to
other areas.

In the hamlet of Kawit Medang a young man named Aji Saka powerful, industrious and
good-natured. One day, Aji Saka managed to help an old man who was beaten by two
robbers. Old man who eventually appointed by Aji Saka’s father turned out to refugees from
Medang Kamulan. Hearing stories about the King of Gods Cengkar savagery, Aji Saka
Medang Kamulan intend to help people. By wearing a turban on the head of Aji Saka went to
Medang Kamulan.

The journey to Medang Kamulan not smooth, Aji Saka had fought for seven days and seven
nights with the devil forest watchman, because Aji Saka refused enslaved by demonic
gatekeepers for ten years before being allowed to pass through the forest.

But thanks to the miracle, Aji Saka managed to escape from the vicious flame. Shortly after
praying Aji Saka, a beam of light from the sky hit the yellow highlight demons at once
eliminate forest dwellers.

Aji Saka arrived in Medang Kamulan quiet. In the palace, King of the Gods are angry
because Patih Cengkar Young Jugul not bring the victim to the King.

With bold, facing King Aji Saka Cengkar Gods and gave himself to be eaten by the King in
exchange for the use of the land area of the turban.

When they are measuring soil on demand Aji Saka, turban stretches so wide breadth exceeds
King of Gods kingdom Cengkar. King was angry after knowing the real intentions of Aji
Saka was to end his despotism.

When the King of the Gods Cengkar angry, Aji Saka turban wrapped strongly around the
body of the King. King of the Gods Cengkar body thrown Aji Saka and crashed into the sea
south and was lost in the waves.Aji Saka then crowned king Medang Kamulan. He brought
his father to the palace. Thanks to a just and wise government, Aji Saka kingdom Medang
Kamulan to deliver the golden era, an era where people live quiet, peaceful, prosperous and
prosperous.
 7.Mouse Deer and Crocodile

One day, Mouse Deer went down to the river to take a drink. But he knew that the crocodile
might be waiting underwater to eat him, so he said out loud. “I wonder if the water’s warm.
I’ll put in my leg and find out.” Of course Mouse Deer didn’t put in his leg. He picked up a
stick instead and put one end into the water. Chomp…! Crocodile grabbed the stick and
pulled it underwater. Mouse Deer laughed. “Ha… ha…ha… Stupid crocodile! Cant you tell
the difference between a stick and a leg?” Then Mouse Deer ran off to drink somewhere else.
In the next day, Mouse Deer wanted to cross the river. He wanted to eat the fruits on the other
side of the river. He saw a floating log in the river. He knew that Crocodile looked like a log
when he floated. Mouse Deer didn’t want to be eaten by Crocodile when he crosses the river.
He had an idea. He called out loud, “Crocodile!” Crocodile rose from the water, “Hello,
Mouse Deer. Have you come to be my lunch?” Mouse Deer smiled. “Sorry, not today,
Crocodile. I have orders from the King. He wants to invite all the crocodiles in this river to a
party. He wants me to count all the crocodiles so he could prepare enough meal for you.”
“Really…? Tell us what to do,” said Crocodile. “You must line up from this side of the river
to the other side,” said Mouse Deer. Crocodile then got all his friends and family. They lined
up across the river. Mouse Deer then jumped onto Crocodile’s back. “One,” he counted. He
jumped onto the next crocodile, “Two.” And the next crocodile, “Three.” Mouse Deer kept
jumping until he arrived on the other side of the river. “How many are there?” asked
Crocodile. “Just enough,” said Mouse Deer. He laughed as he ran to the forest.***

8. Snow White

Once upon a time there lived a little, named Snow White. She lived with her aunt and
uncle because her parents were died.
One day she heard her aunt and uncle talking about leaving Snow White in the castle
because they wanted to go to America and they didn't have enough money to take Snow
White with them.
Snow White didn't want her uncle and aunt to do this. So she decided to run away.
The next morning she run away from home when her aunt and uncle were having breakfast,
she run away into the wood.
In the wood she felt very tired and hungry. Then she saw this cottage. She knocked
but no one answered so she went inside and felt asleep
Meanwhile seven dwarfs were coming home from work. They went inside. There,
they found Snow White woke up. She saw the dwarfs. The dwarfs said; “What is your
name?”. Snow White said; “My name is Snow White”. One of the dwarfs said; “If you wish,
you may live here with us”. Snow White told the whole story about her. Then Snow white
and the seven dwarfs lived happily ever after.

9. Roro Jonggrang

Long time ago, there was a kingdom named Prambanan. All the people of Prambanan lived
peacefully. But then, Prambanan kingdom was attacked and occupied by the Pengging
kingdom. Prambanan then was ruled by Bandung Bondowoso of Pengging kingdom. He was
a mean king. He also had great supernatural power. His soldiers were not only humans, but
also genies.
The king of Prambanan had a beautiful daughter named Loro Jonggrang. Bandung
Bondowoso fell in love with her and wanted to marry her. “You’re very beautiful. Would you
be my queen?” asked Bandung Bondowoso. Loro Jonggrang was shocked. She didn’t like
Bandung Bondowoso because he was a mean person. She wanted to refuse, but she afraid
that Bandung Bondowoso would be angry and endangered the people of Prambanan. Then,
she came up with a plan. “If you want to marry me, you have to build a thousand temples for
me in just one night,” said Loro Jonggrang. “What? That’s impossible!” said Bandung
Bondowoso. But he did not give up. He consulted with his advisor. “Your Majesty can asked
the genies to help built the temples,” said the advisor.
So, Bandung Bondowoso summoned his entire genies soldier and commanded them to help
him built a thousand temples. The genies worked in unbelievable speed. Meanwhile, Loro
Jonggrang heard from her servant that the building of a thousand temples was almost
finished. She was so worried. But again, she came up with a great idea. She asked all of her
servants to help her. “Please prepare a lot of straw and mortar. Please hurry up!” said Loro
Jonggrang. “Burn the straw and make some noise pounding the mortar, quickly.” All those
servants did what Loro Jonggrang ordered them; burning straw and pounding the mortar,
making the genies think that the sun is going to rise.
“It’s already dawn. We have to go,” said the leader of the genies to Bandung Bondowoso. All
the genies immediately stopped their work and ran for cover from the sun, which they afraid
of. They didn’t know that the light was from the fire that burning the straw, not from the sun.
Bandung Bondowoso can’t stop the genies from leaving. He was angry. He knew Loro
Jonggrang had just tricked him. “You cannot fool me, Loro Jonggrang. I already have 999
temples. I just need one more temple. Now, I will make you the one-thousandth temple.” He
pointed his finger to Loro Jonggrang and said some mantras. Magically, Loro Jonggrang’s
body turned into stone. Until now, the temple is still standing in Prambanan area, Central
Java. And the temple is called Loro Jonggrang temple.

10.Pinocchio

He great Italian pine forest, was lonely. He always dreamed about having a son.
Each day, he went cutting woods for the town’s people. One day, an idea illuminated his
mind, the idea of crafting a puppet, which he will call it Pinocchio. He crafted that puppet and
during the night, the puppet becomes alive!
One year of happiness and thriller passed, on a Sunday morning, Gepetto told Pinocchio:
"It’s my birthday soon, my little son! I hope you didn’t forget it!"
"Euh, sure, I didn’t!"
Pinocchio felt awkward. He didn’t thought about that. Gepetto’s birthday was coming in only
three days, and he hadn’t even a present.
After a long night of reflecting, Pinocchio finally decided to offer a homemade chocolate
cake to him as a present.
When the sun rose, Pinocchio was already ready to go outside to find the ingredients. The
main problem was he didn’t even known the ingredients and the recipe.
So after school, he decided to go ask someone for the ingredients to bake a cake. During his
walk, Pinocchio, the wooden puppet, met the town’s sorcerer.

"Hey, little boy, do you need some help for your chocolate cake?"
"Hum… You can help me?", asked Pinocchio.
"Sure, I can. Follow me!"
After walking few minutes so, Pinocchio saw a big, big, big candy house. They entered
together and Pinocchio got caught by a big cage. 
"Mouahahaha!!! I finally caught you! You’ll be mine, you’re going to work for me!", said the
evil sorcerer.
Pinocchio was so scared. When the guards came and took him out of the cage, he
immediately ran away very fast and he succeeded to escape.
At the same time, the evil sorcerer, calling all his troops with him, ran after him and he took
out his magic wand. The evil devil changed the little wooden puppet into a chocolate cake!
When he came back home, he told the entire story to his father and they went to find the god
fairy.
After a long trip, they finally find the god fairy and they got the magical potion for Pinocchio.

11.jaka tarub
In one village, there lived a woman commonly called Mbok Randa, he has a foster
child  named Jaka Tarub which has grown into a young adult who is handsome and  very
happy hunting. One day when he is hunting as usual, he heard the voice of the woman who
is  less clear because it swallowed up dedauanan, Jaka Tarub curiosity eventually leading
to kesumber  votes to sneak.
Jaka Tarub see  7 people pretty girls that are being bathed in the Lake, almost at the same
time, he also saw some pieces of  scarf lying into the Lake, there is a
whisper  of  in  Jaka Tarub to pick it up, and sneak him take one of them. When the girl
who  turns out to be a fairy  it was about to return to the interface, one of them freak
out because it didn’t  find her shawl, but  the sixth was another nymph can not do
anything.  Look at  the Jaka  Tarub  approached the Apsaras were
left named  Dewi  Nawang Wulan, Dewi Nawang Wulan was forced to tell
her  everything, Dewi Nawang Mulan had no other choice, he
finally joined Jaka  Tarub  home. Days changed today, they get married and have children.
Anyway  Dewi  Nawang Wulan was an Angel until he had excess, one is able to make
the sebakul rice rice seeds from only one, as long as  no one  knows it, which is
why Dewi Nawang  Wulan  forbids her husband to open the rice, but
the tanakan Jaka Tarub was not able to resist the sense of  penasarannya, he opened
the tanakan rice it and very surprised because there is only one seed of rice in
it. Jaka Tarub asking about it to his wife, when the Goddess Nawang Wulan lost
his  supernatural powers.
Having been  fullest  human being  always, Dewi Nawang Wulan have struggled to make the
everyday requirement, should be pounding rice, bersusah-susah and take the
padi dilumbung. The longer dilumbung, rice on the wane. Until one
day, when Dewi Nawang  Wulan  wanted to take rice, she found her shawl tucked between a
grain of rice.
Dewi Nawang  Wulan  feel sad at once  excited, he’s happy because knowing he will soon
be gathered with his friends, he’s sad about having to part with his family, but there’s
no  other choice, he had to leave  the currently last Jaka Tarub turned out to see it has
turned out to  be  a fairy anymore. Dewi Nawang Wulan just sent so that her
husband make  a loom up near the cottage shortly before returning to the interface.
 12.Cinderella

Once upon a time, Cinderella lived with her mother and father. Sadly, her mother was died
and her father got remarried. Her stepmother had two daughters, so Cinderella had two step
sisters. They were so nice to her and Cinderella was so happy about that.

One day, her father had to go to out of town for working. Cinderella was left at home with
her stepmother and step sisters. They acted differently towards her. They were so cruel and
asked Cinderella to be their maid. She was so sad about that.

After few days, Cinderella got bad news that her father was died in accident while working.
Her stepmother and step sisters treated Cinderella even worse. She was not allowed to have a
good meal , dresses, shoes, and stuff, and proper room and bed for her.

On the other side, there was a King that looking for a wife for her son. Therefore, he held a
party and invited all the girls. Cinderella wanted to come to the party, but her stepmother and
step sisters definitely forbade her to come. She was so sad looking her stepmother and step
sisters went there beautifully.

A fairy felt so sorry about her and helped her by giving her beautiful dress, shoes, and train to
go there. She went there and met the Prince. They danced all along the night. Unfortunately,
she had to be back at home before 12 or she turned into the way she before. They were
separated, but Cinderella accidentally left her shoe, because she was in hurry.

Next day, the Kingdom especially the Prince looked for the owner of the shoe. All girls tried
to wear that shoe, but no one seemed to be the owner. Cinderella appeared and tried the shoe.
She was the owner of the shoe, so the shoe fitted on her. The Prince was so happy that he
finally met her. Cinderella and the Prince got married and lived happily ever after.

13. The Legend of Kesodo Feast in Mount Bromo

Hundreds years ago, the last king of Majapahit had a young princess from one of his wives.
The princess was named Roro Anteng. Later, Roro Anteng married Joko Seger, who came
from Brahman caste.
Because of unfortunate situation the couple was forced to leave the kingdom. They settled in
the mountain area. They ruled the area and named it Tengger, which was derived from their
names, Roro Anteng and Joko Seger.
After several years of reign, the region flourished in prosperity, but Roro Anteng and Joko
Seger were sad because they did not have a child. They climbed the top of mountain and
prayed there night and day hoping that the God would listen. The prayer was heard and
Betoro Bromo promised to give them many children. However, they had to promise that they
would sacrifice their youngest child in return.
Roro Anteng gave birth to a child, then another and another. In the end, Roro Anteng and
Joko Seger had 25 children. Soon it was time to sacrifice the youngest child , Kusuma, but
the parents could not do it. They tried to hide him, but an eruption happened and Kusuma fell
into the crater. There was silence before they heard a voice. “I have to be sacrificed so that
you will all stay alive. From now on, you should arrange an annual offering ceremony on the
14th of Kesodo (the twelfth month of Tengerese calendar)”. It was Kusuma’s voice.
Kusuma’s brothers and sisters held the offering ceremony every year. Instead of human
being, they collected fruits, vegetables, rice, and meat to be offer to the Gods. And this has
been done generation after generation until today.

14.Telaga Warna

Long time ago, there was a kingdom in West Java. The kingdom was ruled by a king named
His Majesty Prabu.
Prabu was a kind and wise king. But it was a pity that Prabu and his queen hadn’t got any
children. The queen often cried. That was why Prabu went to the jungle. There he prayed to
God every day, begging for a child.
A few months later, the queen got pregnant. Nine months later, a princess was born. Prabu
and Queen loved their beautiful daughter so much. They gave whatever she wanted. It made
Princess turn into a very spoiled girl.
One day, the princess celebrated her 17th birthday party. Many people gathered in the palace.
Then, Prabu took out a necklace which was made from gold and jewel.
“My beloved daughter, today I give you this necklace. Please, wear this necklace,” said
Prabu.
“I don’t want to wear it! It’s ugly!” shouted the princess. Then she threw the necklace. The
beautiful necklace was broken. The gold and jewels were spread out on the floor. Everybody
couldn’t say anything. They never thought that their beloved princess would do that cruel
thing. In their silence, people heard the queen crying. Every woman felt sad and began
crying, too. Then, everybody was crying. Then, there was a miracle. Earth was crying.
Nowadays, people called the lake “Telaga Warna”. It means “Lake of Color”. On a bright
day, the lake is full of color. These colors come from shadows of forest, plants, flowers, and
sky around the lake. But some people said that the colors are from the princess’s necklace,
which spreads at the bottom of the lake.
