COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT

Title: Events happened during the community service period

Sila Academy is a private school and is located in Budiriro, Harare and was established in
2014. Sila Academy is under Glen View Mufakose District. It is highly recommended
because of its high pass rate.

During my community service period I worked from 1th January to 19th February at the
institution, I was given tasks of assisting A Level students with their work, cleaning the staff
room and also making the school clean by throwing litter in the bins. We started this work at
0800hours and I was able to be at work on the right time. Before school starts the students are
allowed to clean their learning classes and I was responsible for monitoring them and to make
sure all the classes are clean. And also for those who would be late to school were given a
punishment of picking all litters at ground and was also their leader.

Also I was given a task to help ground men to remove stones that were found near the blocks
and maintain the school cleanliness by doing so. Keeping the school clean was a priority and
this makes the school very presentable and recognized by onlookers. During my community
service period I was able to learn a lot from the organisation. I learnt to work as a team
member as difficult tasks can be made simple when you work as a team. Team work also
built confidence in me because I was able to ask different questions I encountered during the
community service. I was able to apply the solutions I was given by my colleagues. Team
work was important even when it comes to time management because you will be able to
complete task in given space of time. Good time management was another skill I learnt, every
task was to be completed per given time and by doing so you always know in life your goals
are to be completed per given time so time management is very important.

The community service also enhanced my patience. When assigned some rigorous and
challenging tasks I felt frustrated and overwhelmed. However as I got to undertake the given
task I would feel relief as the thought of why I was there hit me. I then do my duties
diligently. I also got to gladly receive orders and could communicate efficiently with others.

I also learnt that communication is essential when working as a group. As I worked with
other, conveying messages clearly and respectfully will really avoid a lot of unfortunate
events such as injuries, quarrels and conflicts from happening. As such it is of at most
importance to communicate effectively to achieve the set go.

This module is contributing an important role in my career because I met different people
during this service and am having career guidance to those who have already graduated and
have a degree to a program that am doing. Also would be able to meet different people with
different characters and in life you will know how each of them need to be treated. Meet
different people with different qualities and as a student you will be acquiring either one or
two skills from them and able to apply them in your career.
