SAP HANA vs SAP S/4 HANA
▪ Launched in 2011, SAP HANA is an in-memory database technology that runs the SAP
Landscape serving as the backend
▪ Launched in February 2015, SAP S/4 HANA is SAP’s next-generation business suite designed
only to run on SAP HANA
▪ We can use SAP HANA database for SAP ECC as well as non SAP applications
▪ But we cannot use SAP S/4 HANA with any other database except SAP HANA

• XYZ is currently using local softwares for

Procurement, Sales & HR departments
while they are using Tally for Financial

Support Project (AMS)
• XYZ finally implemented SAP within a span of 12

months & started doing day to day transactions
(Creation of POs, managing stocks, delivering
materials to customers, payroll processing, generating
financial statements) in SAP system
• Since the users who are performing these
transactions (End Users) are not the technical
experts, they need the training & support in their day
to day activities (Eg: Sales representative is facing a
issue while creating a Sales Order, Accountant is not
able to post an accounting document etc)
• This is where SAP Support Consultants come into the
picture who will help the End user carrying out there
day to day activities without any technical issues
• XYZ has a choice to select an external SAP support
vendor or build an in-house SAP Support team

• After 3 years of SAP Implementation,

XYZ group has registered a new legal
entity with 3 new manufacturing plants
• As in current SAP system, XYZ already
have 2 legal entities & 4 manufacturing
plants, they need to add this new legal

• Assume that XYZ has implemented 1809
3 years back and now they want to
upgrade to the latest version 2021 which
will offer new simplified & improved

• These types of projects - where we
upgrade from the old SAP versions to
new versions are called as SAP

Conversion Project
• Now for the time being, forget about XYZ Ltd. &
assume a company ABC Ltd who is already using
SAP from last 15-20 years
• ABC is using SAP ECC & now wanted to convert
their SAP ECC system to SAP S/4 HANA with
minimum disruption to their existing data &
processes (standard as well as custom)
• These type of projects where customers convert
their existing SAP ECC system to SAP S/4 HANA
are called as Conversion Projects
• Remember, in case ABC decides to start
everything from scratch & is ready to redesign all
processes & regenerate all data - then this project
would be considered as Greenfield Implementation
project

Development Project
• There are always new requirements either

coming from business side or from regulatory
side
• In order to accommodate these new
requirements, we need to add new features to
standard SAP processes which normally involves
the change request
• These types of projects - where we add or
customize new features to existing SAP
applications are called as Development projects
• Usually, simple Development projects are
considered part of SAP AMS while complex
development projects are outside the scope of
AMS
