Essay: 3 ways to alleviate traffic in Tegucigalpa

The capital Of Honduras, Tegucigalpa has several problems with traffic. The government in one
side have tried to improve this situation by implementing cameras in strategic spots of the city.
However this cameras does nothing different, the law is not being applied for the law breakers,
that most of the time are buses and taxis. Also public transportation has taken control over
Tegucigalpa’s streets, they cut-in line, always throwing their cars or buses, not of their own. In
the last 10 years because of this situation used car lots have brought several cars into the
country because of the lack of regulations and people trying to get their own cars because of
safety.

In the last 30 years Tegucigalpa’s population increased allegedly, in the past Municipality or
Police traffic agents were not necessary. People used public transportation without the safety
problem we have today. When the city began to expand, build neighborhoods, and people
from Rural areas came to the city seeking for opportunities, the city began to increase from
less than Million people to nowadays 2023 that there must be at least 3 Millions in Tegucigalpa.
The increase in the amount of people in Tegucigalpa began to notice that there was a necessity
in having more public transportation to move people from this new neighborhoods in the
outskirts of the city. There were a lot of invasion in private property that the government had
to give these areas as If they bought them. Made streets, helped them bringing water pipes
and the regular needs that people had.

The implementation of cameras throughout the city haven’t made any change, people can
break the law and be recorded but it is more job trying to find who did it that at the end no
one gets the fine or ticket. Too many people, too many cars, they don’t have the way to locate
all people that everyday break a Traffic law.

People lately prefers to take a loan so they can get a car than take the public transportation
because there is no safety at all in taxis or buses. Organized crimes in Honduras have increased
within the public transportation, gangs use to charge weekly or monthly so they don’t attack
busses or rob buses. Afterwards, gangs organize with the drivers or helpers, where and whento
rob, and made sure that law enforcement never finds out how they operated. This issue made
people with the ability to do so, to get cars for every individual in their families, therefore more
cars in the city.

With this issue, used car lots have brought several cars in the last 10 years, since the regulation
its vague, do not have a limit on how many, or from what year, they could bring any amount of
cars into the country. In the past 10 years also used car lots have increased in Tegucigalpa,
there are lore than 50 used car lots only in Tegucigalpa, not counting the used car lots of
Comayagüela. No regulation whatsoever I’m the year of the car, so that means they could bring
more cars because they are cheaper however, at the time of the sale, they would scam you,
incresing it price maybe 20% of the real value.

All of these details it’s what I believe is making Tegucigalpa a chaos. The government have
implemented cameras, now besides the new cameras they should get to work the Sticker that
goes in the Windshield so the camera and it’s system could automatically charge the law
breaker every time they cut in line, go over the speed limit, or avoid a traffic sign. The lack of
regulations within the public transportation is what finished creating the chaos in Tegucigalpa,
because these people believe they own the streets. There are some designated areas for them
to stop, and it doesn’t matter they would stop were they see people, and it doesn’t matter is a
High speed track, creating chaos around , more lines, more people stucked. The background of
driver/helper come from the worst neighborhoods. They are scary, and their looks and their
values, not all of them, as well not all of the taxi drivers, but the majority does.
