Advantages and Disadvantages of Virtual Reality

This is the era of a world without limits. The technology is called Virtual Reality or VR for
short, is an immersive technology that simulates realistic environments or situation, often
through the use of a head-mounted display and motion tracking sensors. Although it is an
advanced technology but IT experts also recommend on the benefits and drawbacks for those
interested.

The main advantage of Virtual Reality is an immersive experience that allows them to
feel like they truly present in a virtual environment. This level of immersive can enhance
learning for elementary students to creating new imaginations, or training for medical students
to study anatomy without using a real body.

One more good thing about Virtual Reality is Therapeutic Applications, which has been
increasingly used in therapy and rehabilitation for treating phobias, PTSD, pain management,
and other mental health conditions. It provides a platform for exposure therapy and immersive
relaxation experiences. For example, a person with a phobia may not be ready to confront it in
reality. Interacting with a simulation in VR may help them gradually become accustomed to the
object of their fear and learn it is not a threat.

The problem with Virtual Reality is high costs and uncertainty. In 2022, Apple Inc.
launched the Vision Pro® with a starting price of $3,499, a high price compared to the $1,550
monthly minimum wage in the United States. In calculations, this means that you need to work
2 and a half months to be able to afford it. And there is still no certainty whether it will be able
to use the appropriate benefits for the price or not.

One more point against VR is Social Isolation, that can users become disconnected from
the physical world and real-life social interactions. Excessive use of VR may reduce face-to-face
interactions and negatively impact social relationships.

In the future, VR will become more accessible with lower prices and bring great benefits
to people. I believe that in 20 years everyone will have their own.
