About the programme
Infectious diseases (ID) are some of
the leading causes of morbidity and
mortality globally, with two-thirds
of the deaths of children under
five years of age being caused by
infectious diseases. The prevention
and treatment of infections is a
priority for global health. Malaria,
Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS continue
to contribute significantly to the
global burden of disease and in
addition to the SARS -COV2 pandemic,
the focus on the prevention and
management of ID is at its greatest.
In addition, hospital based infectious
and antibiotic resistance are ongoing,
urgent challenges which every health
worker should be prepared for. This
programme aims to provide learners
with a comprehensive understanding
of the multiple disciplines that must
align to deliver effective control of
human pathogens in the hospital and
community settings. The programme
will provide in-depth understanding
of both the theoretical and practical
aspects of infection including
monitoring, prevention, diagnosis and
treatment.

This programme aims to provide
understanding of, and practical
experience in, infectious-disease
management for all physicians in
primary, secondary and tertiary care
who are actively involved in the daily
management of patients suffering
from infectious diseases.
