Introduction of Telephone:
It was at this time, 1876–1877, that an invention called the
telephone emerged. It is not easy to determine who the inventor
was. Both Alexander Graham Bell and Elisha Gray
submitted independent patent applications concerning telephones
to the patent office in Washington on February 14, 1876. Bell, in
Boston at the time, was represented by his lawyers and had no
idea that the application had been submitted. Gray’s application
arrived at the patent office a few hours before Bell’s, but Bell’s
lawyers insisted on paying the application fee immediately; as
a result, the heavily burdened office registered Bell’s application
first.

The first version of Bell’s telephone, as it was described in the

patent application, was not suitable for practical purposes. Only
after “a relatively thorough reconstruction”, to quote Hemming
Johansson, could a telephone be designed for large-scale
production. The Bell Telephone Company began operating on
July 11, 1877. In the same month, the first useable Bell telephone
arrived in Europe to be presented in Plymouth to the British
Association by the chief engineer of the General Post Office,
William H. Preece, in the presence of Bell himself.

How the Telephone changed the world:

The telephone is one of the most important inventions in the world.

Before the telephone was invented, you would have to be there in
person to have a real-time conversation with another person. The
telephone changed the world because it enabled people to have real-
time conversations with anybody in the world, regardless of distance.
This revolution in communication not only allows personal
conversations to take place, but it enhanced our ability to conduct
business. The infrastructure needed for telephone communication is
immense and has created a prosperous industry. Telephone technology
paved the way to other important inventions, such as cellular phones
and the internet. Telephones also greatly increased the effectiveness of
emergency services which have saved many lives. The process of
inventing the telephone took brilliant people decades of work to
accomplish.

Thomas Edison invented the phonograph in 1877, but Edouard-Leon

Scott de Martinsville began the research in 1857, he invented a device,
the “phonautograph” that successfully recorded sound waves, however
he didn’t think of a playback feature. Thomas Edison completed the
playback feature which resulted in the phonograph, a device that
allowed users to record sound onto a storage medium, of which they can
send like a letter to be played back on a similar device. Around the
same time, in 1877, Alexander Graham Bell is credited with the
invention of the first electronic telephone that could transmit a person’s
voice clearly through electric wiring. Bell founded Bell Labs, which
invented many technologies that changed our world.

The History of The Creation of The Phone and

The Biography of Graham Bell:

Whenever we talk about Telephones the only name that comes to

our mind is Alexander Graham Bell. But it is important to note
here that along with Graham Bell, Antonio Meucci is also
credited with the invention of the telephone. It is said that
Antonio had invented a device for voice communication in the
year 1854, and Graham Bell had the first patented design.

Graham Bell was born on March 3, 1847, he was an inventor,

scientist, and innovator. It was Graham Bell who patented the
first practical telephone. Graham Bell’s father and grandfather
used to be busy in a speech development program which is
known as elocution, and as a result, Graham Bell was also
inspired to study speech and communication. Graham Bell’s deep
research was immensely influenced by the fact that his wife and
mother were deaf.

Graham Bell’s Early Life, and Education

The young Alexander Graham Bell was home-schooled until he

was 12, following which Graham attended Edinburgh’s Royal
School for 5 years: he loved science but was unable to do well
academically.

Telephone In Victorian England:

The telephone contributed to, and symbolized, a period

of unprecedented change in scientific research, in business
and most importantly, in appraisal of technology. However, I
would be particularly talking about how, since the advent of
the telephone, technology has been embraced by the people.
How the Victorians adapted to the telephone helps us to
understand how technology is socially embedded. By
technology, I also refer to the systematic and continuous
application of social and technical knowledge to solve
practical problems.

Impact of Telephone:

Many inventions revolutionized society and one example is

the telephone, which was introduced to society in 1876. The
inventor, Alexander Graham Bell developed this idea, and the
telephone made him famous because communication would
never be the same after the development of the telephone.
The telephone made an incredible impact on society. The
impact could be seen through the quickness of
communication business, easier communication in wars, and
some negative effects too.

Telephone popularity saw an increase in the early 1900's.

The telephone began to appear all over the place. The
telephone began to be looked upon as a necessity, "By this
time the telephone was settling into national consciousness
as a fixed and permanent part of American life."2 The
telephone allowed people to interact with other types of
individuals, and this ability intrigued the American public.
The telephone made it possible for contact to be made with
people who normally cannot because of being apart by large
distances. People want to communicate quickly with others,
and the telephone makes this happen.

The History of The Creation and Improvement

Of The Phone:

How would you communicate with your friends, family

or people around the world without a phone? Would
you send letters, or even emails with no idea of
understanding their true feelings? The only other option
would be going and visiting them every time you wanted
to talk. Phones are one of, if not the greatest inventions
ever created.

Phones had one purpose when they were invented, and

that was to talk to someone when you were not with
them. They gave you a way to hear someone's voice and
the feelings they had behind the words they were
saying. Since then, they have transformed into a creation
no one would have thought of. You can do almost
everything on your phone now from searching the web
to playing games and texting.
