A Case Study on

Telephone
From cradle to grave
introduction

There are a few inventions that truly changed the world . Telephone is one of them .

It has helped man conquer the limits imposed by nature and distance . The telephone is one of
the biggest “disrupters” starting from the late 1800s . Alongside electricity and the internal
combustion engine , the telephone has revolutionized our way of life .

With it , we have connected opposite ends of the world . Utill today this revolution continues to
evolve evolve , with fibre – optics , satellites , and mobile phone technology .

Incremental changes , including the doubling of processing speed every 18 months or so since
the 1960s .

But the history of telephone is not in a straight line . It’s amazing work of experimentation ,
discovery , incremental improvements .
Telephone prehistory
. This journey starts with the tin can or “lovers”
telephone .

. Before the invention of electromagnetic

telephones , mechanical acoustic devices existed
for transmitting speech and music over a greater
distance .

. The distance was greater than that of normal

direct speech . The earliest mechanical telephone
were based on sound transmission through pipes
or other physical media .

* Basic phenomenon behind this was that it connects two diaphragms with a taut string
or wire , which transmits sound by mechanical vibrations from one to another side along
the wire .
invention

. Credit for the invention of the electric telephone

is frequently disputed , and new controversies
over the issue have arisen from time to time .

. Antonio meucci , Alexander Graham Bell anf

Elisha Gray amongst others , have all ctredited
with the telephone’s invention . Antonio Meucci , 1854

. The early history of telephones became and still

remains a confusing morass of claims and
counterclaims , which were not not clarified by
the huge mass of lawsuits to resolve the patent
claims of many individuals and commercial
competitpors .

Modern telephone

. The modern telephone is the result of work of

many people . Alexander Graham Bell was
however , the first to patent the telephone , as an
“ apparatus for transmitting cocal or other sounds
telegraphically “ .

. Bell has most often been awarded as the

inventor of the first practical telephone .

. There had been many controversies regarding

who invented telephone independentally and , if Alexander Graham Bell in a 1926 short film
With his bell prototype .
not , whether Bell stole the information from gray
but the controversies are much narrower and the
broader question is who deservers the credit for
inventing the phone .
telephone evolution

. Alexander Graham bell invented the telephone in march 1876 . After this he set up a
lab and wanted to improve his inevtion and then he made history’s first wireless call
