1 Read the text. Why is it important to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables?

NUTRITION
Eating a balanced diet is very important for good health. There are several nutrients which are important for
different reasons. It’s great to have them all in your diet.

Carbohydrates give our body the energy it needs to work. They help us to study,
do exercise and have fun. Some everyday foods that have carbohydrates are
bread, cereal, potatoes and rice. Protein is another important nutrient which the
body uses to grow and work. Meat, fish, eggs and beans have got protein in them.
So, try to eat some of these every day.

Your diet should also include a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables because they
have a lot of vitamins and minerals which are two more nutrients. Vitamins and
minerals help your body work in different ways. For example, eating carrots
produces vitamin A in your body. This helps your eyes see well. Spinach, a green
leaf, has a lot of iron which is a mineral that helps keep your blood strong.
Another reason to eat fruit and vegetables is because they all contain fibre which
helps food move through the body. It also helps you feel full before you eat a lot.

Dairy products, which are foods made with milk, have both protein and some
essential minerals such as calcium which helps your bones and teeth grow.
So, try to drink a glass of milk every day or have some cheese or a yogurt.

2 Read the text again. Write the four nutrients at the top of the correct column. Then write the
