EXPERIENCE IN INTERNSHIP

The internship started on 5th JUNE 2022, for a period of 4 weeks. The departments
that I was given were Inventory store and HR department. I worked in both the
departments for a couple of weeks.

WEEK1

The first week was all about the orientation of the company and the departments,
how the organization works, what processes are being followed. In the 1st week, I
was in the inventory management department. The department

had 3 spaces that are different from each other, there were preparation, closing and
a general inventory store.
In the general store, mostly stationery and things that are required for office use
were available such as pens, files, notebooks, bill books, etc.
In the preparation store, all the material that is required in making the shoe was
available, all the raw material such as cloth, soles, laces, etc. that are required in
shoe making were available.
In the closing store, the materials available was required to close and shape the
shoe or other leather products, such as threads, beads, cuttings of shoes, needles for
swing machines and other raw materials that are being imported from China. There
was a quality check area too in the inventory that was setup to make sure that all
the goods are of superior quality, the quality check was done severely by the
manpower through manual mode. The pieces were hand checked and the defective
ones were sent back to the supplier. There were three areas of testing - inspection
area, where goods are being checked, then accepted area, goods accepted are sent
to this area and the last area, rejection area, where goods that are defective are sent.
The goods were checked on the basis of shape, color, size, and all the small things.
I was mainly a part of the closing department where most work was of giving the
required materials to the workers coming. In the 1st week, the people working there
taught me how to use the ERP software that are being used in the tasks of updating
the inventory, I also learnt about the needle giving policy, about the delivery
challan, about different threads and tapes used in the process of shoe making.
In the organization, I also learnt about the process of shoe making, which was: -
Planning – The managers start with the plan of making a fixed number of units of a
particular product, of a particular style.

⮚ Cutting – In this the Upper is cut. The upper is the material from which the shoe
will be made
⮚ Preparation – Then the markings are done on the upper that what shape needs
to be cut.
⮚ Closing – The stitching is done in this step.
⮚ Lasting – The Moulding is done with the help of machines.
⮚ Pasting – The shoe sole is pasted to the upper cut.
⮚ Finishing – The final shoe is being prepared. It is checked for any deviations.
⮚ Warehousing – The goods prepared are being kept in the warehouses to be
dispatched.
⮚ Dispatch – The goods are delivered to the concerned consumers.

WEEK 2
Moving to the 2nd week, I was gaining a lot of knowledge about how the
organization works, how people are handled, how things are being managed. As I
learnt various things in the 1st week of the training, the 2nd week was all about
execution and implementation of all I gathered. It means, as soon as they found
confidence on me, the people working there gave me jobs to do, such as using the
ERP software, getting details and printouts of the products and
specifications respectively. The software’s name was shoe tech ERP.

ERP SOFTWARE - Enterprise resource planning (ERP) is business process

management software that allows an organization to use a system of integrated
applications to manage the business and automate many back-office functions
related to technology, services and human resources.
DELIVERY CHALLAN - A Delivery Challan is a formal document that is
created in situations where goods are being transported from one place to another
which may or may not result in sales. Delivery Challans are sent along
with the shipment of goods. It contains the details of items and quantity of goods
being delivered.
I was learning and implementing the things on the spot, one thing I found annoying
in that the software was, it was very slow and time taking, and the working was
very slow which delayed the working of the store several times. I started making
delivery challans too, with the help of the employees. I made invoices for the
material to be sold. I learnt in detail about the needle issuing policy, the policy was
such that there were different kinds of needles. The rule was that the needle issued
has to be entered in a particular register. If the needle is broken then the worker
needs to get a slip signed by the manager of the plant, and the broken needle
needed to be brought back with all the pieces, and then the broken needle is sticked
to the register, and then the new needle is being issued.
The implementing phase taught me to handle responsibilities and to not to break
the trust that the people showed in me, I was working on software which are used
by experts, so it gave me a good learning experience.
This was my last week in the inventory management department.

WEEK 3

After being a part of the inventory department for almost 2 weeks, I got shifted to
the Human Resources Department. For the first 2 days, I got very basic work, not
related to HR. After 2 days, I started getting work related to HR. It was an
informative week, I learnt various aspects of working in the HR department, how
to deal with different kinds of people, in what manner. There were no specific
projects given to me, but the learning was purely on the job. The work that we
were doing was important for the company and for us also in the learning process.
The week that started with very less work started to catch up speed as there was an
external audit in the company, so I was given a lot of work, such as, checking each
machine in the organization whether safety measures are being pasted or not,
whether the first aid kit is up to date or not, checking all the departments whether
they are clean or not and other necessary actions that are to be taken before the
audit. The job gave me the knowledge of what happens when there is an audit of
the company, and what all the small things there are that are to be kept intact.
Company Audit means “The balance sheet and profit and loss account or income
or expenditure account, cashflow statement of a company shall be caused to be
audited by the auditor of the company as in the companies act provided. and the
auditor’s report shall be attached there too, and the report shall be read before the
company in General meeting”.
I enjoyed the week, as I was given responsibilities to be done. I also learnt to enter
attendance of the workers on different software.

WEEK 4

As I entered the last week of the training program, I was almost used to all the
software used in the inventory department and HR department. There were certain
new things to do.
One was verification of employees who have left within 10 days of joining the
firm. In this, each new worker needs to give the proof as a thumbprint or a sign.
This helps HR in knowing what they have to pay, and to whom. Then there were
cash memos to be made, that will be given to the workers with the salary, I also
made ID cards of the employees who joined few days back, there was preparation
of forms for new employees working for the firm. The breaks given to the
organization was of ½ hour.

The last week was of less work, usual daily works, the attendance software that I
learnt, I started to use it on my own.
As there was less work, I noticed other employees, how they work, what the
process they adapt for different activities is.
On the last day of the internship, I got a certificate of participation in the summer
training programme and a stipend of Rs 2000. Last week came to a close by
bidding adieu to the program coordinators.

KEY LEARNINGS

❖ Every worker is known by his PAYCODE and not by his name.

❖ The work was divided among all members so that it is done quickly and with
complete accuracy.
❖ I got to learn how the organization manages the information of every employee
and how those files are audited and verified.
❖ I learnt the importance of cordial relationship between the superior and the
subordinate, that helps the organization to work more enthusiastically.
❖ I learnt that audit can be of quantifiable things like books of account and also
can be of qualitative things like health and safety.
❖ Actual business organization or its environment is not exactly same as we study
in books or watch in movies.
❖ I learnt skills required to interact with senior management and staff.
❖ Slow networks and software's were the biggest constraints, when it came to do
work quickly.
❖ Respect each employee, whether of junior level or senior level
❖ I learnt ERP software, that is required to enter data.
❖ I learnt to maintain the attendance of employees in the software.

CHALLENGES FACED
❖ One thing I found annoying in that the software was very slow and time taking,
and the working was very slow which delayed the working of the store several
times.

❖ Another challenge that had been faced to handle the semi-skilled and unskilled
workers.

❖ Its take time to be familiar with the corporate environment.

❖ Making coordination was the tough task.

❖ I discovered that working at BASANT OVERSEAS is like working with a
family of friends that I can trust. My experiences here made me realize that no
one can help you unless you ask for it! This is an area that I’m working on, as I
still find it difficult to ask for help. It’s not that I think I am the best at
everything, but when I believe something is my responsibility, I don’t want to
bother other people with my questions!

❖ Working at Basant Overseas has taught me that sometimes you need help to
make things even more awesome, and that it’s okay not to be able to do
everything by yourself.

CONCLUSION

At the end, it was a very good experience, I hope, I get more opportunities to do
such kind internships. The things I learnt were practical in nature, associated with
the real business world. Such internships prove to be a very knowledgeable affair.
The tools & techniques can be used very well in other business areas too. Such
knowledge can be seen as a highlight in my resume also.
