SUMMARY OF EFFECTIVENESS

Authentic Performance Task


School Year 2022-2023

One of the difficulties teachers encountered in the learning process is


sustaining students’ interest and the subject matter and promoting a positive
attitude. Educators must plan activities that motivate and engage students in
meaningful, real-world tasks that demonstrate the application of essential
knowledge and skills. Students see the importance of what they are studying and
appreciate them when they develop a clear understanding of the lessons as
revealed when they autonomously make sense of and transfer their learning
through Authentic Performance Task. It is for this reason that the proponent
crafted a Manual that presents guidelines on how educators will craft their own
performance task. It also includes sample Authentic Performance Tasks in Science
classes with attached rubrics.
As stated in Deped Order No. 8 series of 2015- Policy Guidelines on
Classroom Assessment for the K to 12 Basic Education Program, teacher should
employ varied and appropriate assessment, and recognizes the diverse learners
inside the classroom, so there is a need for multiple ways of measuring their
varying abilities and learning potentials. Furthermore, it also highlighted that
teachers should employ classroom assessment methods that are consistent with
curriculum standards. In addition, the said Deped Order also emphasizes that
assessment in the classroom should aimed at helping students perform well in
relation to the learning standards. One of the main features of these assessments is
the use of Performance Tasks that is anchored on the performance standard of the
K to 12 curriculums. This performance task should allow the learners to show what
they know and are able to do in diverse ways. Students must create or innovate
products or do-performance based tasks. It is important to note that this
performance task should involve students in the learning process individually or in
collaboration with teammates over a period.

Based on the science teachers, the authentic performance task booklet is of


great help to them in choosing the right performance task with the varied types of
learners they have inside the classroom. The manual gave them an idea on what
performance task should be given to the students since the manual is designed
based on the K to 12 curriculums. Also, the presented performance task has
different activities that cater to different learners depending on their abilities and
learning styles.
