The sexism and the Laboral violence

Today I will try to explain what is the Laboral violence and my experience against it, but first we
need to understand some important terms

What is the feminism? / What the feminism is…

Is a political, social, economic and cultural movement, that look for create conscience and
conditions to transform the social relations, to generate the equality between the persons and
mitigate any form of discrimination or violence against the women.

What is the sexism? / What the sexism is…

Is an ideology that considers women is less than the man in one or more aspects. This ideology is
based in a set of beliefs, social practices, behaviors and attitudes that promote the denial of
women as an object.

Pay inequality
Working women are not exclusively from a particular sector; there are precedents in some
productive fields where they are especially present. In Mexico, women employed in industry are at
greater risk of suffering discrimination due to pregnancy, followed by employees in government
offices. In the majority of the industries women are displaced and they earn less money than a
man by doing the same work as the man.

Also is well known that in the most of the important charges are occupied by the men; one of the
beliefs are when the women get pregnant, they will no longer be able to work as before. Also, the
woman is classified as the weaker sex, and many other reasons.

My experience on the Laboral life

In my first job interview I was applying to be a java developer for a financial bank but when I
walked on the office, the receptionist told me "Are you here for the role of receptionist?" and I said
“no, I'm here for the developer role”, at the first moment she told me that somethings wasn't right
because they need a man, not a woman and I asked why in the job offer didn’t say anything about
it, but she told me “well, there are no women developers, but… if you want, you can wait and do
the interview”.

But it was the worst decision, because. I suffered discrimination and psychological violence by the
interviewer, in couple of words, he told me that, I wasn’t enough for the role and told me that in
some time I would get married and get pregnant and I would be absent of my duties, but he never
saw my resume and never asked me anything about my experience or my degrees.

After that I was in s lot of interviews and they offered me less pay than my male friends, the only
reason was that I didn’t have the experience and they requested that a pregnancy test was
performed to validate that I was not pregnant by that moment and they also asked me if I had
plans to get married or have children that was really invasive and sad. But I accept because I
needed the work and was a very good industry and I started to work really hard to prove myself
after 3 months I can handle it and I deserve to have the seam earning as my male partners, but
when they opened positions for leaders, they always looked at men and not women.

That was one of the biggest motivations to search for another job but sadly I found that here in
Mexico was very difficult to find some good job.

Luckily, I found a very good job opportunity, that at the beginning they never asked me about my
personal life or my gender, in fact, the important thing was my job experience and my knowledge.
Now I have 1 year working here, and I feel really good and valuated.

To conclude, the violence and the inequality Laboral is an important topic to talk, and to aware
that exists and is still happening. It is clear that we have a lot of job to do to mitigate and get an
equality on the society.

However, is not impossible, the international companies are working on be more inclusive and
support the women paying an equality of salaries and avoid the violence. We have a lot of
information and supports programs that helps to denunciate those behaviors so please keep
fighting and don’t give up.

There are always better opportunities
