Reflection Paper

These past few weeks of listening to the discussion of our subject Applied Ethics, it gave
me a lot of understanding and realization. During the discussion, I learned several things about
feminism, fighting corruption, and bioethics. We can say that those topics that have been
mentioned are the dilemmas in our societies that prevails until now. Like one of the situations
that most women can relate to is the inequality for them in this society. No matter where they can
be, even though they are surrounded by people with education or none, they have been
experiencing stereotypes. We can learn that it is on people on how they will behave or act for
themselves. We can also relate that even those people with education obtain the highest degree,
they lack morals and conscience even though it has been taught in schools. People still choose to
fraud others for their self-interest. I thank my professor and PILS for giving me more
opportunities to learn more and realize things that I never thought about before. In this essay, I
used the PowerPoint that was given to us as a guide to this stage of learning the truth of this
society. This kind of set-up of new learning has become a way for my future learnings as it helps
me to become wise and lessen my ignorance to become a better citizen and a person in society.

From the first week of discussion until the recent agenda, it was discussed separately the
different kinds of dilemmas that are happening to our country. It is saddening to know that
despite being in the modern world, people still choose to be ignorant and self-fish. Like most
women experiencing inequality. No matter where they can be, there are always stereotyping and
discrimination against them. Even in the workplace, women are still treated lower than men as
they still see that men can do better jobs than women when in reality it is the opposite. Just like
what my sister experienced during her work in a corporate world. She always does all the work
however men in her workplace are the one who earns higher. This explains that people never
change and even though there are many campaigns for equality, there are still numerous people
who choose to ignore it since it will never benefit them. They always see that women are weaker
than men because of toxic traditions. Like how people mock and ridicule the female electives
seeing them that they can’t do better for the country since they are just women. This kind of
mindset of the people is one of the reasons why our country is still called the “Sickman of Asia”
as we are not wise enough to the people who we vote for. We always stick to toxic traditions and
keep going back to the same mistake.

I was a bit disappointed knowing that people choose to repeat the past mistake as it was too
draining since there are no improvements to our mindset and we never learn. The topic about
fighting corruption slapped me to the reality that corrupt politicians keep going back to their
positions since people voted for them. The percentage of earnings of Filipinos that were
supposed to be used for more of their daily life needs have been placed for taxes. And those
shameful politicians are taking advantage of it and cutting it from the national budget. As the
agenda of the discussions, we should always reflect to our daily life all morals that have been
taught to our school and be always a good Filipino citizen for our country and do not be ignorant.

As I end this essay, we can understand that educational attainment will never be the
standard on how people act and behave. Some people who even have it still choose to be a
terrible person. Hence, it is very important to understand that we should never judge people
based on their attainment instead see them as a person. This agenda helps me a lot and changes
me in any ways that could help me to become an instrument for other people. It also helps me to
see more perspectives and know how to search for more facts in order not to be easily influenced
by any fake news. As such, it helps me a lot to become a better Filipino citizen for our country.
