THE DIFFICULTIES THAT GRADE 10 STUDENTS FACED WHEN
TRAVELLING A SIGNIFICANT DISTANCE TO ATTEND FACE-TO-
FACE CLASSES AT STO. DOMINGO NATIONAL TRADE SCHOOL

INTRODUCTION

As soon as the pandemic struck, all regions, particularly schools, were placed
under lockdown. According to the news report published by Carlos (2022) about
the current pandemic of corona virus disease in 2019 (Covid-19), President
Rodrigo Duterte consented to the resumption of face-to-face meetings. (F2F)
lessons are critical to restoring normalcy to the country. In light of this, and after
years of isolation and distance learning, since society is gradually embracing
every shift the pandemic brought about, practically all schools now demand a
small amount of face-to-face classes. One of these schools is Sto. Domingo
National Trade School, which has students all over the province of Nueva Ecija.

Face-to-face learning, often known as traditional learning, necessitates daily

attendance from students. Students must get up early in order to travel to and
attend classes on time. In the Philippines, a mobility study performed in June
2022 indicated that 29% of interviewees said that in their everyday mobility, it
took them an average of 15 to 29 minutes to get to work, school, or university. In
contrast, 26% of respondents reported a daily commute time of 30 to 59 minutes
(Statista Research Department, 2022). According to Lamudi (2019), in order to
achieve good grades, students must follow their schools' attendance policies.
But, as if being a regular student wasn't stressful enough, being stuck in traffic
worsens the situation. Students commonly miss class due to tardiness, which
builds up over time and reduces motivation. When students reach home late,
they have less time to study and complete assignments. Worse, they stay up late
and risk missing a necessary nap.

Taking into consideration all these general challenges, student researchers

came up with the quantitative study entitled, "The Difficulties that Grade 10
Students Faced When Travelling a Significant Distance to Attend Face-to-Face
Classes at Sto. Domingo National Trade School." The independent factors are
forms of transportation for commuting and personal service; the distance
traveled by students while attending classes; and the dependent variables are
the obstacles experienced by students, especially grade 10 students at
Sto.Domingo National Trade School. The challenges might be classified as
commuting difficulties and physical and mental health disorders developed
while traveling.

Student researchers intend to analytically examine and classify the correlational

relationship between these variables in order to consider the students' situation.
