the travel costs to and from their home and the University as part of their financial planning.

AUBG-FUNDED SUPPORT
Admission to the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is based upon the student’s academic qualifications. In order to
attract diverse and highly-qualified students to AUBG and make an AUBG education affordable for those students, the
University allocates its AUBG-funded support based either on academic merit or based on both academic merit and
financial need of the student. Merit is the academic potential that we can see in student’s application documents. Financial
need is determined through an analysis of the Application for Financial Assistance and supporting documents submitted
as part of the application packet.
Continuation of AUBG-funded support is contingent on maintaining a 2.5 cumulative grade point average (on a scale
from 0.0 to 4.0). It requires the student to maintain full-time status as an AUBG student, unless he/she is in the last
semester and needs only a part-time schedule to graduate. AUBG-funded support covers a maximum of eight semesters
of enrollment.
STUDENT LOANS
All full-time, degrees seeking international students with CGPA 2.50 or above who do not receive a full scholarship are
eligible to apply for student loans from First Investment Bank (with a maximum amount of €10,000 for the duration of the
studies) and UniCredit Bulbank (with maximum of €3,125 per semester). These loans can be used to cover part of the
tuition costs of the student. Each student loan application will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. FIB, Unicredit and
AUBG reserve the right to refuse to provide a student loan at their own discretion.
DSK Bank, Allianz Bank Bulgaria, Postbank, First Investment Bank, Bulgarian American Credit Bank, Investbank and United
Bulgarian Bank provide government-guaranteed loans with interest of up to 7% per year for Bulgarian and EU students in
the American University in Bulgaria up to the full amount of tuition.
Bulgarian students can apply for Tokuda Bank student loans which cover different aspects of their studies and student life
(tuition, housing, meal plan and student activities fee). The student can borrow up to €5,000 each academic year and up
to €20,000 for the duration of the studies. Thanks to the support of the America for Bulgaria Foundation, for every full year
within the repayment period that student stays and works in Bulgaria, the foundation will cover 20% of the principal
amount of the loan.
AUBG participates in the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan Program which offers low-interest loans for US students and
parents to help make university education an affordable journey. AUBG’s school code is G34423. Detailed information
about the Federal Direct Loan Program can be found at aubg.edu/loans-for-us-citizens.
Please contact the Student Loan Office at (359) 73 888 311 or the participating banks for more information. The AUBG
Student loan coordinator may also be reached by email at studentloanoffice@aubg.edu.
Additional loan programs may be available at aubg.edu/loans.
ADDITIONAL SCHOLARSHIPS
The Office of Admissions will notify entering students who are eligible for academic merit or Donor-funded scholarships.
Continuing students apply for Donor-funded scholarships, funded by private individuals, firms, banks and foundations.
External scholarships may carry a higher CGPA requirement.
The number of the awards varies from year to year. The availability of these scholarships is announced before the fall and
spring breaks at aubg.edu/scholarships. The AUBG Scholarship Committee processes applications and recommends
recipients.
STUDENT ACCOUNTS
Accounts are opened for each student in order to handle both charges and credits. Tuition, housing fees, student activity
fee and the cost of the meal plan are charged to the student account before the start of each semester. These charges
must be paid in full by August 10 for the fall semester and by January 10 for the spring semester. Students who fail to make
payment by the deadline are assessed a €100 late payment fee and are subject to cancellation of their course registration
at any time.
Credits for Student Assistant Program, scholarships and other sources are applied to the account during the semester or at
the beginning of the next semester. All students must pay any outstanding balance at the end of each semester and before
pre-registration for next semester. Student accounts do not need to be pre-paid, but they must be settled before the
deadline for the next semester or, for graduating seniors, before commencement. Students seeking a leave of absence
must pay any balance due (including a late leave of absence fee, if applicable) before the leave is requested.
AUBG reserves the right to amend the terms and conditions of its financial aid policies, tuition, and other fees.
