INTRODUCTION

The classroom is that space bounded by the wall and roof in which a teacher

houses his pupils or students for the purpose of giving instruction to such pupils or

students. In other words, it is a shelter for both teachers and learners so as to engage

in educational activities. Classroom teaching is a complex task in a complex

environment. The classroom is the immediate management environment for formal

knowledge acquisition. It is made up of the teacher, the learners, the learning

equipment, and the environment.

Educationists and other well-meaning people have always maintained that

education is the greatest legacy a nation can give to its citizens. A good school facility

supports educational enterprises. Research has shown that clean air, good light, and

a small, quiet, comfortable, and safe learning environment are important for academic

achievement.

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

A great school facility is more than just a building kept in the best possible

shape through routine maintenance, regular inspections, and other preventative work.

If done well, it can create an ideal environment for academic achievement with

research showing a direct impact on student learning. “If we want to continue to

increase student scores across the board, we have to first be honest and recognize

that we need to reduce disparities across schools from the standpoint of the quality of

the learning environment,” (Jeff Clemmons, 2021)

iii

Finding ways to focus on the needs of students is always top of mind for high-

performing boards and school districts. Investing in facilities can add up to better

student health, attendance, behavior, and achievement. For teachers, the benefits

include improved morale and instruction. There is no doubt that classroom setup can

have an impact on student learning. (Karen Shwind, 2022).

Creating a healthy learning environment not only helps minimize absenteeism,

but it also impacts a school district’s budget. So, there is student attendance, learning,

and increased performance — they achieve more and get better scores. (Gary Hutton,

2022)

RESEARCH GAP

As time goes by, there will always be different students in a classroom.

Previous studies focused on students' behavior in classrooms. By learning about the

effects of the setup of the classroom, this research aims to help students and SPCC

to know (1) how the setup of the classroom impacts students, (2) how they control the

effect, (3) how the setup of the classroom affects their academic performance, and (4)

whether the setup of the classroom is causing students to lose attention. Addressing

these research gaps could provide valuable insights into tailoring classroom setups to

enhance learning experiences for Grade 12 GA and STEM students.

RESEARCH GOAL AND OBJECTIVES

GOAL

Evaluate the effects of classroom setup on the conducive learning of the Grade 12

students’ study habits

OBJECTIVES

1. To explore the underlying factors that affect the students’ study habits.

2. To determine the factors of classroom setup that affect the students’ study

habits.

3. To formulate recommendations to the Systems Plus Computer College STEM

and GA department in terms of classroom setup for the students’ study habits.

LITERATURE REVIEW

The quality of education has been reflected not only in the subjects taught and

achievement levels reached but also in the learning environment. The environment

has both reflected and influenced the behavior of students, and it has been affected

by events within and outside of the school (Condition of Education, 1998). Most

educators and researchers have agreed that the total environment should be

comfortable, pleasant, and psychologically uplifting; should provide a physical setting

that students find educationally stimulating; should produce a feeling of well-being

among its occupants; and should support the academic process.

v

Qualified teachers play a very important role in improving the learning process

in schools. Teachers who are able to use facilities as learning resources will have a

positive impact on student success at school. The more complete the facilities in the

school, the more motivated students will be in the learning process (Hariyanto et al.,

2021). In the implementation of learning and education, facilities and infrastructure are

very important. The existence of facilities and infrastructure management in

educational institutions will be maintained, and their use will be clear. If the existing

facilities and infrastructure are inadequate, the implementation of the learning process

in schools can be hampered and not run well. Vice versa, if the facilities and

infrastructure are complete and supportive, they will be able to facilitate the learning

process because complete facilities and infrastructure will provide variations in the

learning process (Yulianti, S., & Umar, A., 2022).

Classroom management is the heart of teaching and learning in a school

setting. A well-managed classroom can provide an exciting and dynamic experience

for everyone involved. Unfortunately, student behavior can often be affected by this

process. Good classroom management implies not only that the teacher has elicited

the cooperation of the students in minimizing misconduct and can intervene effectively

when misconduct occurs, but also that worthwhile academic activities are occurring

more or less continuously and that the classroom management system as a whole is

designed to maximize student engagement in those activities, not merely to minimize

misconduct. Many times, by encouraging behavior that is more positive and uplifting

in one classroom, the behavior will carry on into other classrooms, taking the safe
vi

environment further than one classroom. Student achievement, as well as emotional

and social outcomes, can all be positively affected by a safe, positive learning

environment (Stepanek, 2000).

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This study will tackle the effects of classroom setup on the conducive learning

of Grade 12 GA and STEM students. The study's respondents, sample size,

population, research tool, and method of acquiring data will be given. The goals of the

study will be attained through a thorough examination of the research methodology.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will use a true experimental method of research. This method was

selected because, according to Shaughnessy and Zechmeister (2006), it investigates

the cause-and-effect relationships between the variables under study.

The use of the true experimental research method allows the researchers to

analyze the importance of students’ learning and the effect of classroom setup on

students’ academic achievement. Researchers will also collect the data through

survey questionnaires.

POPULATION AND SAMPLING

The sampling design that the researchers will utilize is assigned sampling. The

population of this study consists of Grade 12 senior high school students at the
vii

Systems Plus Computer College Caloocan Campus. The aim of the study is to survey

(30) Grade 12 senior high school students.

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

To carry out the research study, the researchers will create questionnaires to

gather information about the effects of classroom setup on the conducive learning of

the Grade 12 STEM and GA students’ study habits. The researchers will look up

questionnaires from previous research that are relevant to the study in order to have

one. The respondents' responses to the survey will be collected using Google Forms.

CONTRIBUTION AND RELEVANCE TO THE DEPARTMENT

The facilities feature influences students performance in academics.

Classroom environments such as objects or decor, noise, and poor air quality affect

the students. Conducive classrooms can make the students more relaxed and

focused, making it easier for them to express their thoughts, while poor classroom

setup makes the students distracted and unable to focus on their performance

because they feel bothered and do not feel relaxed. The academic performance of

students depends on how they perform in the classroom. The department is affected

if the students don't perform well in their classes because they represent their

department.
