Book - Diana: Princess of Wales

(Tim Vincary)
Diana Spencer was born on 1 July, 1961, in Sandringham in England. She had one brother
and two sisters. Her parents were friends of the Queen. When Diana was eight years old,
her parents divorced. She was very unhappy about this separation. Her mother went to live
in Scotland with another man.
In 1975, Diana’s father and his sons moved to a big house called Althorp. Her father married
a new woman, Raine. Diana wasn’t very happy about this situation, so she wasn’t good at
schoolwork.
Diana went to London and worked in schools for young children when she was sixteen
years. Her sister Sarah was a friend of Prince Charles, the Queen’s son and he sometimes
visited her at Althorp. One day, Diana met Prince Charles and became friends. She liked
Charles and he liked her.
The news about this friendship spread and journalists and photographers came to Diana’s
house and took pictures of Prince Charles’s “girlfriend”. When Prince Charles was younger
he loved Camilla, but she married Andrew Parker-Bowles.
On February 6 1981 at Windsor Castle, Charles asked Diana to be his wife. He was her first
boyfriend. They married in London on 29 July 1981. She was nineteen years old.
At first, they were happy. Their first son, Prince Willian was born on 21 June 1982. They
visited many countries because they were royalty. Many photographers followed to take
pictures. Everybody wanted to see Princess Diana and they gave her flowers. Sometimes
Diana didn’t like the persecution of photographers and felt suffocated.
Prince Charles continued his friendship with Camilla and this situation bothered Diana. She
was always unhappy and ill. She had bulimia.
The second son, Harry, was born on 15 September 1984, but Diana and Charles weren't in a
good marriage. Diana was tired of Charles because he didn’t understand her. One day, they
visited India. While Princess Charles went to meet some important people, Diana visited the
Taj Mahal. Some photographers took pictures of Diana alone in the Taj Mahal. The news
about the unhappy couple spread.
In 1992, Diana left living with Charles, and four years later, in 1996, she divorced him.
Diana had a love hate relationship with the photographers. She loved dancing, running, and
summing, and she had a beautiful body. She was tall and dressed very well. The people
loved her clothes. She was more and more famous and people wanted to see her all the
time. The photographers followed her trying to take a new photo. The newspapers talked
about Diana all the time. She was considered by a French magazine the most beautiful
woman in the world.
Diana was rich and beautiful, but she was an ordinary person and she liked ordinary people.
She was known for her humanitarian work, especially in areas such as mental health, AIDS,
and landmine warfare. Her compassionate nature and dedication to social causes have
made her a popular figure globally.
Many photographers were more interested in Diana’s male friends than the causes
defended by her. She stayed with a rich man called Dodi al-Fayed. The photographers
followed them all the time.
On 31 August 1997, after the dinner in Ritz Hotel, the photographers waited for them in the
street.
At midnight, they got into a black Mercedes car. There are two of Dodi’s men in the car
together with them. The driver drove very fast to escape the photographers who followed
them, about a hundred and sixty kilometers per hour when the Mercedes had a bad
accident. Dodi and the driver died in the car. Diana died two hours later in a hospital.
Millions of people went to London to attend Diana's funeral. Her sons followed Diana’s body
along the streets of London. Princess Charles and Prince Philip walked with them. The
Queen watched them go. Hundreds of charity workers followed behind them. The people
carried flowers and were sad. They cried about the loss of the people’s princess.
Diana was loved all over the world. The people learned from her and became better people
after her. Diana’s body is on an island in the middle of a lake near Althorp House.
