POWER OF PUBLIC SPEAKING – why it is powerful?

- Because you can make your ideas and thoughts public.

civic engagement.

How to do it? – SIMILIRITIES BETWEEN PUBLIC SPEAKING AND CONVERSATION.

- Organize thoughts logically. The more organized your thoughts the more efficiently
you can communicate.
- Tailor the message to the audience. See who are you talking with.
- Tell stories for maximum impact.
- Adapt to feedback. See their expressions.

DIFFERENCES BETWEEN PUBLIC SPEAKING AND CONVERSATION.

- Public speaking is more structured.


- More formal speaking in public speaking. Higher registrar.
- Different methods of delivery in public speaking

What is stage fright?

Anxiety over the prospect of speaking in front of an audience.

How do we reduce that anxiety?

- Acquire experience
- Prepare, prepare, prepare
- Think positively, I can do it!
- Use the power of visualization, to visualize myself achieving the goal.
- Know most nervousness is not visible, it is an internal process.
- Do not expect perfection

POSITIVE NERVOUSNESS

Controlled nervousness that energizes the speaker for presentation. Use nervousness to make
you more productive and successful. Nervous = anxious.

WHAT IS CRITICAL THINKING?

To get focused, organized thinking. Involves the relationship between ideas, soundness of
evidence, and differences between facts and opinions.
FRAME OF REFERENCES

- Is your knowledge, experiences, goals, values, and attitudes total? Your frame of
reference filters everything you hear or say.
- No two people have the same frame of reference.

ETHNOCENTRISM

- Believing one group or culture is better than all other groups or cultures.
- Listeners also have to avoid ethnocentrism

How to avoid it?

- Respect listeners' cultural values


- Adapt messages to expectations
- Imagine oneself in the place of listeners
- Be alert of feedback
