REFLECTION PAPER ABOUT ASPHALT TECHNOLOGY AND CONCRETING

According to our instructor Engr. Layla Baserial taught us that Asphalt Technology is
concerned with using asphalt for paving roads. Most alterations herein influence the strength
of construction and, therefore, its durability; as such, this topic will be included inside road
construction, as was previously indicated. Items (bitumen kind, structure, behavior, etc.) that
determine the properties of asphalt mixes will be analyzed as part of this technology's
evaluation.
As aspiring civil engineers, we need a thorough understanding of this area to come up with
solutions to real-world problems; moreover, we shouldn't limit ourselves to a superficial
understanding of the material we've already covered; instead, we should dive headfirst into
additional research on subjects that will prove helpful as we begin to work as engineers and
architects. Asphalt pavement is the best option; it saves money, reduces noise pollution, and
provides a pleasant driving experience. Asphalt should be used in road building and
maintenance to maximize the positive effects on people and the planet. Considering all the
asphalt's benefits, it's clear why it's such a good investment.
It is common knowledge that civil and structural engineers play critical roles in the timely
completion of public works projects. Engineers focusing on civil engineering plan, construct,
and maintain public works, including highways, trains, and sports arenas. Bridges, roads,
airports, houses, hospitals, parks, tunnels, stadiums, and everything else are all products of
civil engineers who work to make the world a better place. They're working to make their
neighborhood better. Cooperation and teamwork are encouraged in civil engineering.
For young people, engineering is one of the most promising fields of work. Engineers are in
great demand, even though the field has specific educational and experiential requirements.
When asphalt binders age, they tend to harden and become brittle.
The ancient Romans were the first to produce and commercialize concrete, and they utilized
it to construct a wide variety of public structures, including aqueducts, churches, baths, and
even the Colosseum, which is still considered one of the world's greatest architectural
achievements. Roman concrete reinforced Roman ideals about social position and imperial
authority while being a durable material with various architectural uses. Since concrete is so
ubiquitous, we may not give much thought to its history or the decisions to make certain
structures out of concrete and others out of another material. The advantages of concrete as
a building material are readily apparent if it is understood that a home's beauty need not be
compromised during construction.
Most concrete structures have a service life of at least 30 years, and many survive far longer
before they must be repaired or replaced. As a result of concrete's longevity and resilience,
structures created from it are seldom destroyed owing to wear and tear. They instead become
unnecessary and may be demolished or reused in other ways.
Regarding abrasion and moisture damage, concrete holds up quite well in wet conditions.
Only the joints are vulnerable to rust and decay since it contains almost little biological
material. Keeping up with the building's joints annually is essential for a concrete structure to
maintain its water tightness. In places prone to harsh weather, concrete is the material for
building homes.
