Wrap-up
Value Environmental Education Protecting an Endangered Animal
Objective To introduce endangered species. Distribute paper (see Materials). Ask students to

Warm-up
Endangered Animals
Show the pictures of the endangered animals
(see Materials) one at a time. Elicit or teach their
names. Then ask students if they have seen any
of these animals in a zoo. Explain to students that
these animals are disappearing from the planet.
Teach the term endangered.

1 Read, look and color the endangered animals.


Hand out copies of Worksheet 1 (see Preparation).
Have students point to and name the animals
in the illustration. Elicit which of these animals are
endangered. Invite them to ask if they don’t know.
Write on the board Are (penguins) endangered? and
encourage students to use the question when they
want to find out about a specific animal. Hand out
colored pencils (see Materials) as needed, and invite
students to use them to color these animals. Do a
visual check of students’ worksheets.

2 Read and color the endangered animals.


Ask students to point to and name the animals in
the activity. Tell students that all these animals are
endangered. Read the first paragraph aloud and
have students follow along. Clarify any unfamiliar
vocabulary. Ask students what colors the giant
panda is (black and white). Invite them to color it.
(Note: Use the picture of the giant panda is from the
Warm-up to help students color the bear.)
Follow the same procedure for the other animals.
