Introduction
Weather report: Ask the class about today’s weather.
Song: Play a warm-up song.
Warmer
Play Do it! to energize the class at the beginning of the lesson.
Assign each child an animal word, e.g., lizard, zebra, camel, etc.
Give instructions, e.g., Kangaroos, jump! Camels, stamp your feet! Children who have that word assigned to them do
the action.
Presentation
Look at the picture. Where is the sun bear? (Exercise 1)
Ask the children to look at the pictures. Ask Where are the sun bears? Ask questions and encourage children to make
predictions about the text.
Elicit and model new vocabulary where necessary.
Read. (Exercise 2)
Ask the children to read the text silently to check their predictions. Encourage them to work out any unknown words
from context.
Development
Read again. What animals can you see in Cat Tien National Park? (Exercise 3)
Put the children into small groups to read aloud the texts.
Help with pronunciation of difficult words.
Tell them to discuss the question in their groups.
Read again and answer the question. (Exercise 4)
Ask the questions in turn. Give the children a minute to check the text if necessary.
Go through the answers with the class.

Discuss the questions with the class, either as an open-class activity or in smaller groups.

Make an animal mask. Talk about it. (Exercise 6)
Ask the children to make an animal mask for homework.
At the next lesson, choose some children to show their masks to the class and talk about the animal they have
chosen. The remaining children then talk about their masks to one another.
