Camotes Island is known for its stunning beaches and the magnificence of its reefs. The island is known
for producing an abundance of sweet potatoes, the word "camote," which means "sweet potato" in
Filipino, is whence the name "Camotes" originates according to the legend and can be found in
Camotes sea, off the coast of the Province of Cebu. Sometimes referred to as the "Lost Horizon of
the South. In addition to the natural beauties found on land, the islands are home to numerous dive
spots. Also it has expansive white sand beaches. The island is a heaven for all kinds of experiences,
like skydiving, island hopping, kitesurfing, and cliff diving, even though it's the ideal place to
unwind and recuperate.

Modernization Theory

According to this theory, Modernization is a process that was originally traditional to become
more advanced to improve people's lives. It brings various benefits, such as making it easier for
people to carry out activities so that they are more effective and efficient, promoting island
mobility, and enhancing economic growth.

Adaptancy Platform

This platform acknowledges that mass tourism has a negative impact but can be minimized. This
also offers what we might refer to as "alternative tourism," or modifications or other forms of tourism
that benefit the host communities.

Sustainable Tourism Approach

A sustainable tourism can be defined as an approach where it maintains equilibrium between

development and the environment. It is necessary to meet the demands of the current generation and also
the needs of future generations. It is needed to prevent environmental issue. It could be beneficial to
improve economic growth
Tourism Development Theory

Modernization is the chosen theory for tourism development on this island. The local people live
in small communities and rely on traditional fishing and agriculture for their livelihood. We have
chosen the Modernization theory because we believe that upgrading the infrastructure will benefit the
local people on the island. Right now, there’s an on-ongoing Camotes Island Airport which is now
waiting the proposed budget to be approved on the final reading. This Airport can generate
revenue, provide employment opportunities, and attract foreign investment. Since the locals rely
on traditional fishing and agriculture for their livelihood, so once airport is done, they can benefit
more about the changes. They can offer a lot or services, foods, products and so on.

Therefore, our goal is to continue the Modernization theory that was slowly apply to this
island so that we can strengthen infrastructure for greater employment opportunities that can
benefit local communities and attracts visitors to the island without compromising the said Island.
Like we can offer a lot of suggestion that’s related to modernization like build Healthcare and School
opportunities since these are part of the local’s problem.

Tourism Planning Approach

Camotes Island in the Cebu Province's is renowned for its stunning beaches, Caves, clean
seas, and crystal-clear water. This island has managed to avoid becoming overrun by tourists while
maintaining its true appeal. This implies that guests can fully immerse themselves in the
tradition and culture of the area while experiencing genuine hospitality. Also, Mangroves play a
significant role in the island's coastal and wetland environment. Visitors can easily notice the
mangroves' lush growth throughout the entire shore because Locals in Camotes Island embrace the
importance of Mangrove's preservation to the point that it covers a large part of the Camotes
coastline. Leading the way as one of the most successful sustainable travel destinations, Camotes
Island is home to the largest percentage of protected areas in Cebu.
The island also makes sure that sustainability is a major priority and uses eco-goods and
services to stimulate the local economy. Like how Teguis Children’s Association for Active
Participation, plant mangrove saplings to protect the islands from tidal waves, strong winds and
storm surges.

In our opinion, the Sustainable Tourism Approach is the best approach for Camotes Island.
Instead of changing their planning approach, why not strengthen it? We will maintain the island’s
natural resources so the next generation can enjoy the same benefits especially the younger ones.
We will just create some changes that can benefits Locals, LGU’s, Tourism Industry and Future
investor wherein we will create a proposal in regards to building Healthcare, School, Sanitation
Services and Livelihood opportunities.

Tourism Planning Platform

The Cebu provincial government aims to protect Camotes Island and its rich environment-
life through embracing mangroves plan for eco- tourism. The island is known for its unique way of
preserving the island. However, there’s an issue that might create a big impact in the future like some
locals tend to build a house and use the pure white sand of some beaches. So suggested the Adaptancy
Platform because it emphasizes green tourism, environmental improvement, and human wellbeing.
This platform anticipates potential problems that, if they are not resolved now, could appear in the
future.

Based to our research, Camotes island has the ability to adapt to future changes and development
in order to establish a sustainable tourism industry. If they can sustain mangroves environmentally
why not include the beaches? Because if we will not take an action right now, we will regret it in
the future. As their primary source of income, the island should be more protected. Since the island
provides for their livelihood, LGU’s and Cebu Tourism Industry should promote more awareness,
education or environmental campaign that will aid the community in avoiding activities that can
endanger mangroves, and biodiversity.
