1.

The diagram shows a field, ABCD, drawn to a scale of 1 cm to 50 m.

(a) The field has a straight path from D to the midpoint of AB.
Draw the path and measure the angle the path makes with DC. [2]

(b) Grass is to be planted on an area of the field.

The area to be planted is to be
• less than 325 m from B
• nearer to CB than CD
and
• can only be on one side of the path.
By drawing appropriate loci, find and shade the largest possible area for the grass to be planted. [4]

(c) Find the actual length of the part of the path that forms a boundary for the grass. [1]
2

The diagram shows quadrilateral ABCD with AD extended to E. Angle BCD = 135°, angle BAD = 83° and angle
CDE = 122°. Find the value of x. [2]

3.

The diagram shows trapezium ABCD. AB = 7 cm and DC = 10 cm. The area of ABCD is 85 cm2.
The perpendicular height of the trapezium is h cm. Find the value of h. [2]
4.

The diagram shows an isosceles triangle ABC where AB = AC. D is a point on AC such that angle ADB = 90°.
E is a point on AB such that angle AEC = 90°. Show that triangles ADB and AEC are congruent.
Give a reason for each statement you make. [3]

5. Complete the description of the symmetry for each shape. [2]

7.
A rectangular piece of card measures 30 cm by 24 cm.
The net of an open box is made by removing a square
from each corner of this piece of card.

Each square that is removed has a side x cm.

The area of the net is 576 cm2.
(i) Form an equation in x and solve it to find the value
of x.

(ii) The net is made into an open box.

1000 cm3 of sand is placed inside the box.
Find the fraction of the box that is filled with sand.
Give your answer in its simplest form.

[3+3=6]

8. (a) Shade one more small square so the diagram has rotational symmetry of order 4. [1]
(b) Shade two more small squares so the diagram has 2 lines of symmetry [2]

9. ACD and BCE are straight lines. AB is parallel to ED.

(a) Prove that triangle ABC is similar to triangle DEC. Give a reason for each statement that you make. [1]

(b) AB = 6 cm and ED = 2 cm. The area of triangle ABC is 45 cm2. Calculate the area of triangle DEC. [2]
