Outline Title: Cultural Influences on Communication

Introduction

 Hello, my name James jones and I'm currently enrolled in COMM 1103.

 I come from Baltimore Md USA, and my personal and career goals include making it

to the NFL. In 10 years, I envision myself to play football for a couple years.

 My communication strengths lie in good time management skills while areas of

improvement include handling things differently.

 The three topics I will discuss today are culture, nonverbal communication, and mass

communication.

Body

Culture

 I come from a Black American culture, which influences the way I perceive the world,

interact with others, and present myself.

 Culture influences communication styles by shaping values, beliefs, and social norms,

which in turn affect how individuals express themselves and interpret messages

 Culture can affect how people communicate in different ways. For example, it may

affect communication styles in aspects such as phrases, words, gestures, and

languages used.

Nonverbal Communication

 Nonverbal communication plays a crucial role in cultural contexts, encompassing

gestures, facial expressions, body language, and even proxemics.

 Nonverbal communication plays a significant role in my culture, affecting how

messages are conveyed and understood.

 Success factor: Building trust and rapport through culturally appropriate nonverbal

cues.

Mass Communication

 Storytelling power: Traditional narratives inspire and connect communities.

 Global reach: Understanding cultural influences on media is essential for responsible

communication.

 • In summary, culture plays a multifaceted role in mass communication, influencing

both the content produced by media outlets and the behaviours of audiences

Conclusion

 My communication journey, rooted in Black American, equips me for global success.

 Combining cultural strengths, nonverbal fluency, and media awareness, I aim to build

bridges, not walls.

 Remember, communication is a journey, not a destination.
