Communication is a process of sharing and conveying messages or

information from one person to another within and across channels,

contexts, media, and cultures. It can be manifested in a wide variety of
contexts like face-to-face interaction, a phone conversation, a group
discussion, a meeting or interview, a letter correspondence, a class
recitation, and many others. Knowing the basics of communication will
equip me with a strong foundation, which I can use to hone my
communication skills effectively.

In our life, it is very obvious to know how important is communication

regardless of its context. Many of us learn from experiences in life. Just like
in the saying, “Experience is the best teacher.” We learn to effectively
communicate because of our experiences and by that we do better next
time. In performing a speaking engagement, most of the times, we look for
sample speeches which we can benchmark. This is truly manifested
probably if we are asked to deliver a speech. I personally have been
experiencing this in my studies. Some of my teachers would ask me to
orally deliver a speech that convey a message. Others would ask us to do
drama, role play, group activities which obviously show the importance of
communication.

In our society, every time we interact with each other like doing some
business transactions, bonding with friends, partying with our peers, going
to social gatherings and many more communication is the only tool for us to
understand with each other. Communication in context occurs when
individuals interact with one another, reflecting their diversified cultural
backgrounds, etc. In the situations mentioned above, there are forms and
ways of communication influenced by different ethnicities, religions, and
sexual orientations. I have seen this greatly in our society. Being a student,
I am expected to be aware of these influences in the communication
process and in doing so, it is expected that there will be no barriers in my
communication among my peers, and of anybody else in the society and in
my family.

All over the world, our way of communicating with others is greatly
influenced with the speech context reflective of one’s societal background,
religions, beliefs, traditions, and even sexual orientations. In order to adapt
appropriately with this fundamental idea, an individual opts to different
styles of communication. This is probably seen in situations like how some
politicians win elections, how a man captures the heart of a woman, how a
business agent closes a deal, how a comedian makes his audience burst
into laughter. These are just some instances that show how powerful and
important is communication around the world.
Finally, I can say that everyone of us, even the deaf and the mute, do
communicate regardless of races, religions, status in society, nationality to
be able to live and show to the world the real purpose of our existence.
