Books Market Economy vs. Planned

Economy: Provision of Public
Goods
In a market economy, public goods are typically provided through a
combination of private and public initiatives. Private businesses may supply
certain public goods, such as education or healthcare, for a fee. Meanwhile,
the government may intervene to ensure the provision of essential public
goods that are not adequately supplied by the market, such as national
defense or infrastructure.

In a planned economy, the government assumes a more direct role in

providing public goods. Central planning authorities allocate resources and
determine the production and distribution of public goods based on
national priorities. This can lead to a more uniform provision of public
goods across the population, but it may also limit diversity and innovation
in the types of public goods available.

Overall, while both types of economies aim to provide public goods, the
methods and extent of government involvement differ signi cantly.
