Abstract:
In studying the idea of motivation, this text follows the origins of the term back to the Latin word

"movere," which means "to move." Motivation can be defined as the energy for activities,

originating from the will and commitment to meet demands or fulfill expectations. The

importance of motivation is discussed, with a focus on how it improves mood, excitement, and

mental health over the long run. The text differentiates extrinsic motivation, which is motivated

by outside rewards, and intrinsic motivation, which is motivated by inner fulfillment.

Additionally, it draws attention to the important connection that exists between professional

communication standards and employee motivation in the workplace, highlighting the positive

effects of a motivated workforce on open conversation. The conclusion shows how motivation

affects every part of life, from mental health to productivity, and how important it is for

promoting fulfillment and positive energy, with the excitement to get things done.

1.1 What is Motivation?
The Latin word movere, which means "to move," is where the word motivation comes from.

Motivational research aims to understand why individuals act in specific ways. Motivation is

often defined as the determination and dedication of action. The main concept of motivation is

that people are motivated to try and accomplish a task to satisfy a need or expectation.

Motivation is a drive, it’s what drives a person to get up in the morning, eat, drink, work, or do

any action no matter how easy it sounds, with no motivation a person will act upon nothing (The

Oakwood Academy). Motivation results in high performance, no matter the action that is being

performed. For example, a manager would prefer an employee with motivation rather than an

employee with no motivation, as the motivated employee will be more productive and efficient,

as there is a drive to get the work done nicely. Being motivated boosts the morale of a person, it

makes him/her do the task more willingly. Not only that, it also boosts energy levels, a person

who is motivated has the energy to do more than a person who has no motivation (William Scott,

April 2020). In addition, a person who lacks motivation can be diagnosed with depression in the

long term, as motivation boosts the morale of a person, so without this boost in a person’s morale

in the long term, this causes depression. Some important factors that must be discussed are the

two types of motivation and why is motivation significant as a whole and in professional

communication. To help understand the term motivation and get deeper into it (Dr. Nazrul Islam,

December 1999).

1.2 Significance of Motivation

For people to perform successfully and provide the expected outcomes, they must get motivated.

They will understand the importance of motivation only once they understand how important it

4
is. People will realize the benefits of motivation when they comprehend its importance and

purpose, which will be of great benefit to them. It is necessary for people to develop positive

attitudes towards their jobs and the people they collaborate with. People become motivated when

they believe that completing their jobs and activities successfully will improve their general

quality of life and their career chances. The demands of the individual determine how motivation

increases. Every person will be dedicated to meeting needs and specifications. To meet the

demands and specifications and accomplish the main aims and objectives, people must get

motivated and produce knowledge about a variety of aspects. They will do their job tasks

effectively and create a feeling of pleasure and fulfillment when they are well-equipped. As a

result, people are able to understand the importance of motivation when their wants and

requirements are met, and they experience feelings of joy and satisfaction (Radhika Kapur,

December 2020).

2.1 Intrinsic Motivation

One way to define intrinsic motivation is the natural desire to complete a task. Individuals

participate in specific activities because they are enjoyable, help them learn a new skill, or are

morally right. For example, because they are enthusiastic and willing to learn new things,

intrinsically motivated students do much better in class activities. They go deeper into the

material to completely understand it, and their educational experience is more meaningful as a

result. However, it could be necessary to "bribe" students who are. extrinsically motivated to

complete the same assignments. To add to, the same goes for employees or even football players,

when an employee or a football player has intrinsic motivation, he/she will be more productive

and efficient in what he/she does as this gives him/her inner pleasure, it is what satisfies him/her.

This characteristic of an employee, student, a football player, is highly beneficial for both the

5
individual and the organization he/she is in, and usually, those types of people are much wanted,

in organizations, as it is a win-win situation where the organization the person is working at is

benefitting, and the person himself or herself get the feeling of satisfaction and joy when doing

that, as it is also benefiting them too ( Rosalia Bonjour, December 2010).

2.2 Extrinsic Motivation

Extrinsic motivation is the act of doing a task, not for the task itself but for an external factor that

will be achieved or reached after getting the task done. Some examples of extrinsic motivators

are studying to get a good grade, going to work to earn money, or even helping others to get

praised and looked up to. Some may believe that extrinsic motivation is a negative way of being

motivated, however, to be realistic, most human behaviors are not, strictly speaking, intrinsically

motivated, even though intrinsic motivation is unquestionably a significant form of motivation.

This is particularly true after getting older when social expectations and roles that require people

to take on responsibilities for tasks that aren't intrinsically engaging gradually limit people's

ability to be intrinsically motivated. For instance, it seems that intrinsic drive-in schools

decreases as students move up the grades, same goes for employees as soon the salaries are

raised. Extrinsic motivation is a concept that applies to every activity carried out to achieve a

specific objective, and that is a reality (Richard M. Ryan and Edward L. Deci).

2.3 Motivation and Professional Communication

Two related factors that are essential for a successful workplace are motivation and professional

communication. Workers who are driven show a greater desire to interact, share ideas, and work

together. This motivation creates a culture where information flows easily and improves the

6
standard of professional communication overall. A motivated staff produces open dialogue and

clear communication lines, which feeds back positively. On the other hand, good communication

helps people stay motivated over time by making expectations and goals clear and by praising

achievements for individuals as well as groups. To put it simply, motivation is the engine that

drives communication, and effective communication in turn feeds back into and increases

motivation, resulting in a mutually beneficial relationship in the workplace (Sari Ramadanty,

Handy Martinus).

3. Conclusion
To sum up, motivation is what causes people to engage in specific activities and change their

behavior when doing an act that will meet their demand or need. With motivation, People are

driven to succeed whether they are at work or not by their desire to complete things and perform

better. Motivation is crucial for mental health, job satisfaction, and productivity. Additionally, it

delays the start of mental diseases like depression. Because it can match with desires, develop

positive attitudes, and create emotions of joy and fulfillment. There are two different kinds of

motivation: extrinsic motivation comes from rewards from outside sources, and intrinsic

motivation comes from a sense of inner pleasure. Professional communication and motivation

go hand in hand in the workplace because motivated people have open conversations, teamwork,

and increased productivity.
