Simple Past
Simple Past is when we say we completed an activity in the
past and it’s not happening anymore.

REMEMBER we have 2 types of verbs using Simple Past.

These are the verbs These are the verbs
that finish with -ED that change

sail – sailed make – made
start – started take - took
Negative
In past, to say something in
negative you use:

DIDN’T + action

Did not is the same of didn’t.


I didn’t travel
I didn’t sail
I didn’t take
I didn’t go
I did not take

REMEMBER: The actions don’t put


them in past.

Question form
To make questions, you need to do this:

DID + SUBJECT + ACTION + …?

Did Marco Polo travel to China?


Action is not in past here.

Make these sentences into questions:

• They met the emperor of China


• Marco Polo sailed to Venice
• He started his journey
• The Pope gave them gifts
Ago
This sentence is used to measure time and
it’s only used in past sentences.

Man began to measure time by

• At the end of a sentence
• Next to numbers
• Next to the words: hundreds, years
Was and Were
You use this words in past to talk about:
locations, feelings, descriptions, etc…

Was Were
Use this with more than 1 person
Use this with one person or object
or object

Notice how with Was, the subject doesn’t


finish with “s” like with Were.
