EXPERIMENT 2: LEAF: DOORWAY TO LIFE

OBJECTIVES MATERIALS
 Observe and understand the process of Hydrilla (Elodea) leaf
photosynthesis in a Hydrilla leaf using a Compound microscope
compound microscope. Microscope slides and cover slips
Water

INVESTIGATE
1. Place the Hydrilla leaf in a clear plastic container or beaker filled with water.
2. Carefully transfer the leaf onto a microscope slide and place a cover slip gently on top of the
leaf.
3. Position the compound microscope over the leaf and chamber. Focus the microscope on the
leaf, and adjust the light source to provide adequate illumination.
4. Observe the leaf under the microscope.
