INTRODUCTION
The Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh,
is the competent authority which will regulate admissions to postgraduate medical
courses in PGIMER. The authority will start the admission process with the release
of application form. It is necessary for all candidates to fill the application form of in
order to be eligible to appear for the entrance exam. Aspirants who have completed
their MBBS from an institute recognised by the Medical Council of India (MCI) can
appear in the PG medical entrance exam. The computer-based test will contain 250
multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and will be of three hours duration. Candidates who
will manage to secure cutoff percentile as set by the authority will be included the
result. The qualifying percentile for general category is 55, while for SC/ST/OBC, it is
50. Only such candidates who have qualified in the entrance exam of PGIMER will be
eligible to participate in the offline counselling process.
Recognized as one of the premier medical institutions of the country, the MD and MS
programmes of PGIMER Chandigarh follow a structure involving residency-cum-train-
ing over a period of three years. Candidates taking admission through PGIMER exam
will be called as Junior Residents. The process of admission through PGIMER will
be strictly according to the merit and rank secured by the candidates in the entrance
examination. Admission to postgraduate courses conducted twice a year in January

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Aspirants are required to fulfil the eligibility criteria so as to apply for the post-graduate
entrance examination. The eligibility criteria are set by the examination conducting authority,
PGIMER Chandigarh. The terms of the eligibility criteria of PGIMER entrance exam are listed
below.

●● Educational Qualification: All the candidates applying for PGIMER exam are required to
complete their MBBS degree from a Medical Council of India (MCI) recognized institution.

●● Internship Completion: Candidates who wish to attempt PGIMER for January session are
required to complete the rotatory one-year internship mandatorily by December 31, 2020
for January session and June 30, 2020 for July session.

●● Other: Candidates must possess a registration certificate from the Medical Council of
India (MCI) or State Medical Council (SMC).

APPLICATION FORM
The PGIMER application form for the January session will be released in the first week of
October . Before filling the application form of PGIMER , aspirants must ensure that they
have read the terms of the eligibility criteria and fulfill its conditions. The authorities will
release the PGIMER application form in the online mode only. However, the application fee
has to be paid offline. The PGIMER application form fee can be paid either via bank challan
in any branches of the State Bank of India (SBI) in favour of ‘Director, PGIMER Chandigarh’ or
through SBI i-collect service for candidates with SBI bank accounts. The fee for application
form of PGIMER for various categories has been mentioned below.

Aspirants seeking admission to PGIMER can go through the PGIMER exam pattern

PGIMER ADMIT CARD


PGIMER, Chandigarh will issue the PGIMER admit card for January session in the
last week of November 2019. The PGIMER admit card will be released for only those
candidates who have successfully submitted the application form within the stipu-
lated time period. The admit card of PGIMER will be released in online mode only.
Candidates will be able to download the PGIMER admit card by using the Login ID and
password generated at the time of registration for filling up the application form. The
admit card of PGIMER will mention the personal details, roll number, and examination
centre details of the candidates. All candidates have to carry the PGIMER admit card
and a valid photo identity proof along with them to the examination hall in order to be
allowed to sit for the examination.

PGIMER RESULT
The result of PGIMER for January session will be released on November 25, 2019,
in online mode. PGIMER, Chandigarh usually declares the result within 24 hours of
the exam date. Aspirants who will secure the minimum qualifying percentile as set
by the authority will be included in the result of PGIMER . PGIMER MD/MS result for
January session will be announced in the form of merit list containing the names of
candidates, percentile scores, overall rank, category rank and category. Only aspirants
who have qualified the exam will be eligible for the counselling process.

PGIMER CUTOFF
Candidates are required to meet the PGIMER cutoff in order to pass in the postgradu-
ate entrance examination. The cutoff of PGIMER is the minimum score that should
be obtained by the candidates to be considered for the process of counselling for
admission to the MD/MS courses. Based on the PGIMER cutoff percentile scored by a
candidate, the merit list will be prepared. The cutoff of PGIMER differs category-wise.

PGIMER COUNSELLING
PGIMER Chandigarh will conduct the counselling for PGIMER . The sessions for
PGIMER counselling will be held offline. The counselling for PGIMER will be held in
three rounds subject to availability of seats. For the first round of PGIMER counsel-
ling , candidates equal to three times the number of available seats will be invited.
Candidates meeting the cutoff percentile requirement will be called for the various
rounds of PGIMER counselling based on their merit rank. All the candidates called
for PGIMER counselling will have to report in-person at the counselling centre on the
stipulated date and time. Any candidate not reporting for the counselling of PGIMER
will not be considered for admission. However, such candidates will be eligible to
participate in the subsequent rounds of counselling.

PGIMER SEAT RESERVATION


A total of approximately 143 seats will be offered by PGIMER across 20 departments
in the disciplines of Master of Surgery (MS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD). The PGIM-
ER seat reservation for various categories is according to the norms of Government
of India. Apart from this, 5% seats are reserved from candidates from rural areas,
another 5% of seats are reserved for Persons with Disability, and one seat is reserved
for a sponsored/deputed candidate as per the criteria for seat reservation in PGIMER.
