3D ANIMATION

Stop-motion or Claymation
It is the early type of 3D animation it is very
time consuming but good to watch. It is made by
frame by frame photography of the model that is
usually clay and piece it all together to form an
animation. It started from the early 1980’s

William Fetter
Made the first 3D image of the human body;
The Boeing Man that is a 3D representation of Man
that is now used in referencing for 3D animation.

George Lucas
Familiarized with star wars which was a CGI
film. Since it had Live actors it was considered
more as visual effects and CGI film rather than an
animated film.
Steve Jobs
“Pixar Animation Studios” bought Disney at
2006.

What is 3D animation?

3D animation is the process of creating moving

images in a three-dimensional or 3D environment,
giving the illusion that these digital objects are
moving through a 3D space. Such that models are
used to be moved across the 3D space.

How is 3D animation made?

This is done by creating a model or character,
rigging it with bones and joints, and then animating
it to create the desired movement. Using specific
apps such as Blender animators can use the app to
make their models, environment and animate them.
CGI takes a huge part in the process of 3D
animation in big hit movies, shows and games.

CGI - Computer Generated Imagery

It is the creation of still or animated visual
content with imaging software.

Example: In Sci-fi movies CGI is made to animate

the scientifically advanced vehicles such as
spaceships or even it exploding or firing weapons.

VFX - Visual effects

It is any special effects added to a film using
a computer. VFX typically combines live-action
footage and manipulated or enhanced imagery to
create realistic environments and characters. The
goal for it is to make realistic visual effects in
films.

Example: In movies greenscreens or bluescreens

are mostly used to edit in some features in a film.

Blender - Free open source 3D program that is

used for animation, simulation, 3D models and 3D
content.

3D pipeline - A pipeline for illustration that is a

timeline for pre-production, production and post-
production.
