SELECTING THE PAPER TO PRESENT

➢ Select the paper from a Scopus indexed journal which is peer reviewed
➢ Select the paper of your interest based on the discipline or research area that explores
or advances knowledge
➢ Select the paper which is an original article and not a review
APPRAISING THE PAPER BEFORE PRESENTING
➢ Read the article first
➢ Select a tool for appraisal
➢ Appraise it with the tool’s guidelines
Preparing the paper for presentation
➢ Prepare it in a power point presentation
➢ Use standard font style and size throughout
➢ Keep slides uncluttered with too many information
➢ Make sure your text contrasts with the slide background like black text on a white
background
➢ Bolding, color and spacing can be used for emphasis

➢ Mention the Title and authors
➢ Outline the story: give brief background without detailed review of literature
➢ Explicitly state the aims/major questions of the paper
➢ Explain the methods used in the study
➢ State the results and interpretations with the conclusions of the study
➢ Discuss the validity of methods, results and conclusions from author’s perspective
LITERATURE
➢ Verify the latest evidence ( 1-5 years preferable) from the reference and look for the
research gaps identified to discuss the paper selected
METHODS
➢ Detail the methods of the paper in terms of its specificity, validity and reliability
RESULTS
➢ No need to present all the tables, main results tabulated should be presented
 ➢ If tables are complex retype the information
DISCUSSION
➢ Relate the results with objectives or hypothesis stated
➢ Discuss the limitations author stated
PRESENTING THE PAPER TO PRESENT
➢ Provide rationale for selecting the article
➢ Don’t read through the slides and should be explanatory
➢ Collate the information of the article in simple way; use flowcharts if required
➢ Read out the values and detail the interpretations
➢ Critique the article at the end for illustrating its importance
