wyrażenia ,,wywołujące" inwersję - szyk pytania

bezpośrednio po sobie - w pierwszej części zdania, jeśli rozpoczynają zdanie:

Never before..., Not once..., Not even once..., Not for a moment..., Nowhere..., Nowhere else...,
Only in this way..., Only later..., Only then..., On no account..., Rarely..., Scarcely..., Seldom...

np. Little did she know at the time that he would be the one.
(Nie wiedziała wtedy jeszcze, że miał być tym jedynym.)

Hardly... when..., No sooner... than..., Not only... but (also)...

np. Not only is he a great listener but he also gives me good advice every time.
(tu jest inwersja) (a tu nie)

Jeśli wyrażenia te nie rozpoczynają zdania, to nie wywołują inwersji, porównaj:

I rarely go to the cinema.
Rarely do I go to the cinema.

Inwersja stylistyczna tego typu, jak sama nazwa wskazuje, jest zabiegiem językowym
stosowanym ze względów ,,estetycznych", szczególnie w języku literackim i formalnym, a także
w utartych zwrotach i żartach.

inwersja dopiero w main clause - ,,drugiej" części zdania - po:

Not since..., Not until/till..., Only after..., Only by..., Only if..., Only when...

np. Only if you read it two or three times, will you realise what I mean.

typu I z should (,,jeśli przypadkiem" - grzecznościowe)

np. If you should see him, tell him to call me. -> Should you see him, tell him to call me.

typu II z were (If I were you..., If I were to win...)

np. If I were to win a million pounds, I would buy a Porsche. ->
Were I to win a million pounds, I would buy a Porsche.

dowolnych typu III

np. If I had given him my real phone number, he would have called me. ->
Had I given him my real phone number, he would have called me.

inwersja w zdaniach z przysłówkiem/kolokacją

przysłówkową na początku

np. Here comes the bride. (ale: Here she comes. etc. - zaimek jako podmiot)
Up and up went the balloon!
Round the table sat all my siblings.

inwersja w zdaniach z emfazą z so/such na początku

Such a beautiful day was it that we couldn't stay at home.

So cold was the water though that we couldn't swim in the lake.
