NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING PROCEDURES MANUAL

2. 71-00-002 Engine Mount Link Fittings — Magnetic Particle Inspection

A. General
This procedure covers principal structural element inspection No. 71-21-301, No. 71-21-302 and
No. 71-23-100.
A1. Parts / Assemblies to be Inspected
• Forward beam suspension link, Part No. 94756
• Forward mount beam support link, Part No. 1159PM41313
• Aft mount beam support link, Part No. 1159PM41323
A2. Description
Dog-bone fitting between engine and forward engine mount.
Dog-bone fitting between forward and aft engine mount and fuselage fitting.
A3. Material
• 13-8 AMS 5629
A4. Defects
Fatigue cracks. See Figure 603, Figure 604 and Figure 605.
A5. Primary NDT Procedure
• Magnetic Particle or Eddy current
NOTE: See 71-00-003 Engine Mount Trunnion and Engine Mount Trunnion Bolt Assembly -
Magnetic Particle Inspection.
A6. NDT Equipment
• Wet Horizontal Stationary Magnetic Particle Inspection Machine
B. Preparation and Cleaning
(1) Aircraft Preparation
(a) Remove engine. Refer to Aircraft Maintenance Manual.
(b) Remove suspension links. Refer to Aircraft Maintenance Manual.
(2) Part Preparation
(a) Remove any paint and clean area to be inspected with solvent.
(b) Mask or remove bearings to prevent ingress of magnetic particle inspection medium.
C. Magnetic Particle Inspection
(1) Perform head shot using 800 to 1000 amp per 1 inch diameter (diagonal for rectangle). See
01-00-009 Instructions for Magnetic Particle Inspection.
NOTE: Bushings are not part of this inspection. If bushings are in place, ensure the engine
mount beam is the part inspected.
(2) Perform central conductor shot using 1200 to 1500 amps per diameter and perform coil shot
using amps = 45000 ÷ (length ÷ diameter) ÷ number of coil turns.
(3) Demagnetize part to 3 gauss or less.

materials.
(2) Back up NDT Procedure:
• None
(3) Clean area inspected.
(4) Inspect the work area for foreign objects and damage.
(5) Restore finishes as required.
(6) Install any components removed in Step 2.B.(1)(a) and Step 2.B.(1)(b). Refer to Aircraft
