DATA INTERPRETATION AND ANALYSIS

According to the data collected it clear shows that floods greatly increase mostly in
rainy seasons they can have a lot of impact on the people and property . Figure 1.0
show how rains increase in some months causing a lot of flooding.

Figure 1.1 shows precipitation increase in different months of the Year

Figure 2.0 shows clearly that floods have a great effect on business areas such as
markets , buildings and bus stations e t c where a lot of people find it hard to move
from one place to another.

Figure 3.0 . shows how greatly floods have also affected transport. For when roads
are filled with a lot of water caused by harvey rains can lead to flooding blocking
roads making it difficult for vehicles to move from one place to another. Making it
difficult for texi drivers to move and causing a lot of accidents.

Figure 4.0 clearly shows that a lot of poor drainage systems can leads to a lot of
flooding in Chawama Township of Lusaka. It as been found that the general public
has greatly contributed in the increment of floods, for they damp a lot of waste in
drainages blocking drainage systems and causing floods.

It also as been found that in some areas of Lusaka is that apart from Chawama
Township of Lusaka some compounds like, MISISI,KUKU, JOHN HOWARD,JACK and
FRANK are some of the compounds where flooding idms high and has caused a lot of
effects.

However the government has taken some measures in order to reduce the impact if
floods in Chawama Township of Lusaka. Some of the measures taken are the digging
up of drainages as clearly shown in Figure 5.0 where the government has
constructed some drainage to reduce the impact of floods.

PROBLEMS AND LIMITATIONS

Financial problem

Money for typing and printing the project was the biggest challenge that it faced
when carrying out this field project.
CONCLUSION AND EVALUATION
Floods have more negative effects then positive effects on the people of Chawama
Township of Lusaka. The government are aware and have taken some measures on
the problem. Floods have really caused a lot of effects on the people of Chawama
Township of Lusaka such as waterborne diseases such as cholera, blocking of roads
and contamination of water. The more poor drainage systems and poor settlement
the more the floods and increase in the effects (impact) of floods .

RECOMMENDATIONS
I. The following are suggestions to the matter at hand in Chawama Township of
Lusaka.

II. To see to it that people can take part in the controlling of floods in order to
reduce the impact of floods by avoiding the damping of waste and other
martials that causes blockages in the drainage systems.
