1. Collect pictures of agricultural technologies from their ancient origins the

contemporary times. What are the similarities and differences of agricultural
technologies compared to each era?

Agriculture in Ancient Era

In traditional agriculture, farmers rely on age-old methods and tools passed down
through generations. They often work smaller plots of land using hand tools and animals for
plowing. Crops are typically grown without the use of synthetic fertilizers or pesticides, and
farmers may practice crop rotation and intercropping to maintain soil fertility and reduce pests.
Traditional agriculture is often more about self-sufficiency, with farmers growing food primarily
for their families and communities.

Agriculture Now

Modern agriculture, on the other hand, has been revolutionized by technology. Farmers
now use advanced machinery, such as tractors and combine harvesters, to work larger areas of
land more efficiently. Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are commonly used to maximize crop
yields, along with genetically modified seeds that are more resistant to pests and diseases.
Modern agriculture is often characterized by large-scale monoculture, where a single crop is
grown over a large area for commercial purposes.

Despite their differences, traditional and modern agriculture share some similarities.
Both aim to produce food and other agricultural products, and both require knowledge and skills
related to farming practices. Additionally, both types of agriculture can have an impact on the
environment, with modern agriculture sometimes facing criticism for its use of chemicals and
impact on biodiversity. However, both traditional and modern agriculture play important roles in
feeding the world's population and sustaining rural livelihoods.

2. Why is it important to know and understand the history of agriculture?

Knowing and understanding the history of agriculture is important because it tells us how
our ancestors lived and survived. It shows us the hard work and ingenuity they put into growing
food and caring for the land. By learning about their struggles and successes, we can
appreciate the importance of agriculture in shaping our world today. Their stories teach us
valuable lessons about respecting the environment and using resources wisely. Understanding
our agricultural past helps us make better choices for the future, ensuring that we can continue
to feed ourselves and protect the planet for generations to come.
