TITLE: Respiration
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Respiration is how living organisms get energy from the food they eat. It breaks down glucose
with oxygen to release energy in the form of ATP. This energy helps with various biological
processes, like muscle movement and cell function. The main products of respiration are carbon
dioxide, water, and ATP. Carbon dioxide is breathed out, and water is used by the body or
expelled through sweating and urine. ATP energy is used to keep the body functioning and
growing.
METHOD:
4. The subject was requested to take one minute and then count and record the number of
6. The number of breaths taken in every other minute was recorded until the breathing rate
returned to normal.
7. The recovery time was calculated by subtracting 6 from the time it took to return
During the exercise the breathing rate increased, this can be associated with the fact that during
exercise the body uses more oxygen and produce more carbon dioxide in return the body
demands the supply of oxygen increase therefore increased breathing rate. After exercise the
breathing rate remained elevated due to the body’s necessity for oxygen to metabolize the
byproducts of exercise. The relationship between breathing rate and recovery time can indicate
an individual’s fitness level in which the lower the recovery time the better an individual’s
cardiovascular fitness is and inversely the higher the recovery time indicates a poor fitness level.
CONCLUSION:
In conclusion the effect of exercise on breathing rate is an increase in the rate and depth of
breathing to supply more oxygen to the body and remove carbon dioxide, meeting the heightened
