3 SPECIFIC DESCRIPTION
For all substances, preparations and articles the Global Automotive Declarable Substance List
(GADSL, http://gadsl.org) is applicable according to declaration, usage restriction and prohibitions.
Substances, which are to declare (“D”) according to GADSL shall be avoided, if possible.
Substances, which are listed in Annex XIV of the European REACH regulation must not contain in
articles or preparations or delivered to GETRAG as single substance.
Substances, preparations and articles, delivered to GETRAG, must not contain or release
ingredients, which are classified as carcinogenic, harmful to reproduction or causing genetic
changes (see also Annex XVII of the European REACH regulation). This is also valid for
substances, preparations and articles, which are suspected of being carcinogenic, harmful to
reproduction or of causing genetic changes according to the material safety data sheet.
Substances, which are classified as substances of very high concern (SVHC) according to EC
1907/2006, or which have been published in the SVHC candidate list should be avoided and the
declaration is mandatory according to the legal requirements. They are prohibited for new developed
products.
If the herein before mentioned regulations allow different classifications (e.g. declarable, prohibited)
it is required to observe the classification which is more strict. Furthermore the requirements, listed
under point 6 of this standard, need to be considered.
Substances, preparations or articles, which contain artificial radioactive substances must not been
delivered. The supplier must make sure, that delivered substances, preparations and articles do not
contain impurities from artificial radioactive material.
Hazardous contents that can be emitted over a period of time or during process must be stated, e.g.
gas emitting paper for corrosion inhibition, vapour of residual monomers and decomposition
products of plastic parts, isocyanides vapour of two component laquer. Adhesives must not contain
any toxic monomer vaporization substances.
The requirements for packaging material for operating and auxiliary materials are listed in table 1
(Not valid for GETRAG FORD Transmission sites, see also 3.2).
In case of occupational medical questions the formulation of preparations must be declared after an
arrangement of confidentiality, when indicated.
Deviations from this standard are only permitted in exceptional circumstances. In every case it
needs a written approval by GETRAG beforehand. Contact partner at GETRAG is the document
owner mentioned on page 1.
Different or additional individual requirements, which result from updated scientific findings,
customer requirements or legal requirements must be realized immediately. GETRAG advises its
suppliers, that in USA and europe new regulations enacted or are in the making, which could result
in additional duties of declaration for so called ”Conflict Materials“ and “Conflict Minerals”. Suppliers
are obliged to provide necessary information on request. GETRAG has also the right to ascertain
information in third party audits. For further information the Magna Global Supplier Requirements
must be consulted.
and the production process is tested. The iESO Milestone confirms completion of all requirements
including all deviations signed by the customer, design released and CP testing completed. If the
final products are destined for the Chinese market, the suppliers must complete the material data
sheets in CAMDS (China Automotive Material Data System) instead of IMDS with the beginning of
the CP phase, but latest until project milestone iESO (internal Engineering Sign Off). The suppliers
are responsible for the accuracy of the data. In case of any doubts about reporting material data
(IMDS or CAMDS), the suppliers have to clarify this with the responsible buyer at GETRAG,
autonomously.
If a part is selected by our OEM customer to be included in an RRR calculation (reusability,
recyclability and recoverability) the affected suppliers will be informed and these parts must be
reported earlier than milestone iESO. The RRR portion of the whole vehicle type approval is
performed in accordance with ISO standard 22628. The deadline for IMDS submissions for RRR
parts can be expected to be 5-7 months before milestone iESO. For this requirement a “preliminary
datasheet” is sufficient. However all “preliminary datasheets” must be replaced by final IMDS
datasheets prior to deadlines specified in the previous paragraph.
All changes of the composition must be approved by GETRAG and entered into IMDS or CAMDS,
respectively. Changes may only take place after written approval by GETRAG.
Suppliers of production material are committed to provide eco-balance data according to ISO
14040ff for a product life cycle inventory analysis to GETRAG. It is only applicable for parts which
have to enter in the product balance sheet.
The suppliers are obliged to inform GETRAG about coatings (e.g. corrosion protection oil) by
material safety data sheet. The safety data sheet must comply with the legal requirements of the
production site, which receives the article.
Emissions of substances in non-metallic material, which may cause allergy or asthma symptoms or
breathing difficulties if inhaled (R42 or H334) or which may cause an allergic skin reaction (R43 or
H317) must be below detection limit if tested according to VDA 278.
The material specific requirements for packaging are described in table 1. Packaging of different
compositions may only be used with the agreement of the requesting department.
Carton, corrugated board Use of recycling material preferred plastic- or metal coatings
Compressed wood
straps
3.4.3 Refrigerants
If refrigerants are necessary, suppliers have to choose those with an ozone depletion potential (ODP) of
zero and a warming potential (GWP) as low as possible (max. GWP: 2.000). If cooling with water, air or
CO2 isn't possible we advise the following refrigerants: R717, R744, R723, R1270, R600, R290, R134a,
R407c and R410a. For detailed information see GCG_900441.
3.7 Violations
The supplier indemnifies GETRAG for all disadvantages and costs which result from not fulfilling the
requirements stated above or from wrong information from the supplier and will discharge GETRAG from all
requirements of third parties, which are appealed against GETRAG, except he is not the originator of the
violation.

CAS-No.:
The CAS-Number ensures a distinctive identification of chemical substances. If in column 1 is listed a
substance-group with examples (e.g. Mercury and its compounds) the CAS-No. is written in brackets. The
described requirements are valid for the whole substance-group.
Threshold:
Substances, preparations and articles exceeding the limits specified in the substance list (section 6) must
not be supplied to GETRAG. The threshold is applicable to homogenous material.
Prohibited (P):
Prohibited substances must not be contained in preparations and products as chemical product or
ingredients (contaminations must be declared). For the substances having a defined prohibition threshold,
this is the threshold at which the substance is prohibited. The threshold is express as weight percentage. It
is applicable to homogenous materials.
Declarable (D):
If preparations or products contain substances, which are classified as „declarable“, the supplier must
inform the responsible purchasing department of GETRAG immediately (e.g. by material safety data sheet).
