FLASHCARDS´INSTRUCTIONS AND GUIDELINE
The following guide contains pictures and suggested questions. Teachers must be aware
that questions on Cards 1 are to be used to encourage the students to speak, and these
may lead to other questions regarding the topic of interest.

Cards 2 may be used as a teacher-student interaction or, the teacher may provide two
students different cards to interact between themselves.

STEP 1: INTRODUCING ONESELF AND ASKING FOR STUDENTS´ NAMES

(This procedure has to be applied to every student that is being evaluated.)

STEP 2: ELICITING ANSWERS.

CARD 1A - QUESTIONS

1-What do you normally wear to go to school/work?


2-What´s your clothing style?
3-Do you follow every new fashion fad?
4- Where is the closest restaurant?
5- How can I get there?
CARD 1B

Choose one of the three topics and talk about it:

a- It is important to have a bank account


b- A lot of people form an opinion about someone based only on
appearance
c- Simple actions become more powerful than words

CARD 1C

Read the instructions and tell us about the following situation:

• You went to the mall with your best friend. You wanted to buy a pair of
shoes but you didn´t want to spend a lot of money. Describe the shoes
you bought. Say how you paid for them and why (credit card, cash)

b- Do you agree with the idea of having a blind date? Why/Why not?
c- Making a lot of money is more important than enjoying your job.

Read the instructions and tell us about the following situation:

• You went to a very important party. You chose to wear a very


expensive and exclusive outfit for the occasion. When you got there
one of your clients/ friends was wearing the same clothes. How did
you feel?

Read the instructions and tell us about the following situation:

• Last week end was your boy/girlfriend´s birthday. You decided to invite
him/her to have dinner at an exotic food restaurant. Talk about what
you ate, why you chose that kind of food. Say if he/her enjoyed it.

Read the instructions and tell us about the following situation:

• You asked your best friend for a favor but he/she refused to help you.
Say what the favor was, why you asked him/her instead of any of your
relatives and how you felt about it.
